He means that at $375, you can afford a $500 refurb (recap, etc...) and end up with a piece of audio equipment you'll probably won't have to replace before you're faced with eating the daisies by the stem...

Exactly what I meant!

One major purchase criteria for me is the ability to resell an item at cost (or better) if I decide I don't want it.

There is always a price premium for a component that has been recently serviced and / or upgraded. But that price increase rarely covers the cost of having someone else (a pro) do the work. As a result, many "deals" only make sense is if I can do the repairs or refurbishment myself.

This receiver looks nice cosmetically, and at the seller's price you can afford to let someone else do a top-of-the-line refurbishment and still have a great receiver at a decent price.

Looks to be in pretty good shape and the seller states "lets make a deal" so maybe there is room to negotiate.?. Like you would need to negotiate at that price, just making an observation.
