I don't get the trade part if he's selling before he leaves the country
Unfortunately too many people are passing themselves off as Military in situations just like this, taking advantage of the respect due to folks who actually are
I am not saying it's true and I'm not saying it's not; it's just the "I am going over seas and I can't take it with me" is another common story
I know this is NOT what he said but it's a reasonable inference, or maybe he's just another poor cash strapped soldier and his wife needs cash to eat while he's gone

I'd verify the story and lay $1,500 cash on him and it'd be yours in an INSTANT and that's be a fair deal in that neck of the woods

Good points. Which only proves we can infer and analyze til the cows come home.
If a seller and buyer can close a deal by Saturday good for them. craigslist is caveat emptor and caveat venditor for a reason.
Bottomline, nobody is forcing anyone to buy.
All we are are peanuts in the gallery exercising our collective imaginations for entertainment purposes here.
I have an Orion Blue Book from 1991, and it lists the retail value of an SX-1980 at $125 or some ridiculously low number. Clearly they were at, or near the bottom of their value curve at that time. Wish I could have found one then!
Of course that was before the internet, ebay, craigslist, etc. By the time I bought mine in 1999 or 2000, I paid about $700 on ebay, thanks in part to a blurry picture and a seller who misidentified it as an "SX-1880". It was not working when it arrived but the seller swore up and down it was working when shipped, so UPS paid for about $250 in repairs.
Even back in 1999 or so, I remember seeing a non-working SX-1980 with no knobs, no cabinet top, that had been stored outside (chassis was rusted!) that went for between $3-400 dollars on ebay.

Exactly such deals CAN be found "overseas", even today. I can verify that firsthand, from recent personal experience!
I just wish I could find a SECOND one at the same kind of price. Flip it for an easy extra $1000 profit... maybe one day! Not very likely, though: the one I own is the only SX-1980 I've ever seen in-the-flesh, and the dealer I bought it from said he'd only ever seen one other, some years ago, so such deals don't come along often.
But you never know what will show up here; the GT-2000 I bought was only the second one I'd ever seen, with more than a year between sightings, but the other day one dealer suddenly had THREE of them for sale, in a shipment of stuff he imported from Japan. So I keep an open mind and open eyes, and hope! I've said for years that if it is audio-related, no matter how rare, sooner or later it will surface in Hong Kong! This place is amazing, that way. :yes:

Listed on ebay twice and both bidders backed out...
Now listed for the 3rd time, I guess it's calling me...
Is this the one on ebay from a zero feedback seller and with BIN $2,500? He describes as having receipt for a transformer upgrade. I emailed for information on this upgrade and his answers were rude.

Is that your question in the ad listing? He said it was a free upgrade from Pioneer. I believe it's the same receiver, it was also listed on CL. He was never able to sell it for that much, the previous auction ended at $1,575 and this one ended at $1,720.

Yup, that's the same guy. His answers to me were borderline. Not confidence inspiring especially since he is a zero fb and this is a high dollar transaction. Good luck.
