Pioneer SX-424: no phono!

Hello!
New to audiokarma and amateur audiophile.
I have a Pioneer SX-424 receiver which has been loyal until now. I recently moved and am getting it setup again. Once hooking it up to my speakers, the AM/FM sounds great without issue. Very clear.
However, I’ve setup my turn table to find the audio quality is awful. Super buzzy and muted sounding. I tried playing it with nearly new records and the TT is also new with a clean stylus. Like I said, switching it to the tuner sounds perfect.
Anyway, if anyone has a thought, I’d appreciate it.

Try another turntable or try the turntable on another receiver.

Is the turntable grounded? You might need to Deoxit the PHONO RCA jacks in the back of the Pioneer. Also the selector switch might be dirty Deoxit that as well.

Have to ask...do you have the TT connected to the Phono inputs? Is the problem in both channels?

Are you sure that the headshell wires are firmly connected to the cartridge terminals? Same for interconnect cables to the Pioneer receiver?

Do you have a digital multimeter? If so, test cables for continuity and shorts.

What turntable and what cartridge?

"Super buzzy" suggests broken cable. Or element not properly fitted. Reseat RCA plugs to the Pioneer. Check gounding cable to GND lug next to the PHONO MAG inputs. Try with another turntable.
