Pioneer SX-737 and some speakers help.

Hey,

How's it going, I'm new here and I've got a question, hope I put it into the right section.

I might be getting a Pioneer SX-737 from a friend who found it in his dads garage and I'm wondering is 50€ a decent price?
After what I've read on this forum and other forums that this is high price for not mint but working SX-737.
He said it's working fine, but is damaged on the outside, dunno how or where yet, he will be sending pictures today and I will post them later.

The other question I got is speakers. He only found the receiver so I looked at local "ebay like online shop" and I've found these:
- Pioneer CS-363, 35€, 8ohm, 40W, working.
- Pioneer CS-580, 67€, 8ohm, 70W, working.
- Pioneer CS-797, 60€, 6ohm, 110W, unknown.
- Pioneer CS-777, 79€, 6.3ohm, 60W, working.

The more I googled about these speakers, the less I found. The reason I registered here is because the only thing I found about them were pictures from this shop site and few polish? videos on youtube. So if anyone has any info on either of those, please feel free to share.
Also.
Which speaker set from the above would be the best for SX-737? and are their prices reasonable?
I was thinking CS-363 or CS-580 since SX-737 has 35W at 8ohm.
I have no idea what I'm doing so the more info I get, the better.

Thanks for your time and help
Kind regards from Slovenia.

p.s.
(1€=1.33$)
We don't have thrift shops here :(

That may be a good price for the stereo where you live. It's not a bad price here in the USA, but it isn't a great deal. We have so many options over here, that the low and mid line stereos can be found for $40 to $60 all day long!

Thanks for the reply, he said he might go as low as 40€. Still waiting for pictures.

No one knows anything about the speakers I posted?

Pictures

Alright so I've got the pictures for the SX-737.

Looks amazing:

He wants 40€ (53$) for it.
The problem is, he said it's working but he has no speakers to test it on and neither do I to bring them with me to test. What now?
Also, what do I need to look and check when buying, I don't think I'll be able to open it there and look inside.

EDIT:
Oh I forgot I could test it with my headphones? I've got Sennheiser HD598.

I've been doing more research on CS-363.

Here are the sellers pictures:

He wants 35€ (46$) for them, in working condition he says.
What do you guys think?

and some more research on CS-580. Didn't go so well.

You can check them out here.

pictures are not his, they are off internet, also in working condition.

Found more CS-580 pictures.

Thanks for the help.

The Pioneer SX-737 is a good entry level receiver. The price sounds reasonable, especially if you have limited other local options.

Except for the HPM series, Pioneer isn't known for their speakers. They are probably OK but most of us have much better options. Do you have any other local speaker options?

HPM series?
Uhm, we don't have thrift shops or garage sales or anything like that.
The only way to get something vintage is to get lucky and find it in a trash before they take it away, know someone with it or get lucky on that wannabe craiglist/ebay site that we have. This is the link to it for audio/video->audio->speakers, you have sub catagories there but I'll just leave it plain if you want to look and find something better since IDK what to look for.

Thanks for the answer and help

The receiver is one of the best Pioneer receivers in the SX-x3x line as I like the toggle switches more than push buttons. It is an excellent start to a nice system and in the middle of the Pioneer line at the time.

I would not look for Pioneer speakers to go with it. I would look for other speakers that get good reviews and are available in your area. Pioneer and some other full line manufacturers made speakers, too, and these were not always their best efforts.

If you could find some Brauns, Kirksaeter or other European brands, maybe even some of the British brands, you might get much better speakers than the lower Pioneer speaker models.

I have the SX-737 -- indeed a very nice receiver all around. I don't know about the Pioneer line of speakers, but my KLH 17's sound very good with this receiver. Not sure if any KLH's made their way to Slovenia.

I also have an SX-737 and Like it very much- good power and feature set, nice looking also. I agree that you should look for better speakers than the Pioneers you have looked at. Perhaps there are some good Scandinavian, German etc. types that will offer better performance.

Sweet, thanks to all for answers, will look into other speakers.
Will post what I find and if it's good.
Thanks again.

Edit:
after hours of searching and looking arround I didn't find much.

@Blue Shadow; didn't find any braun speakers, no Kirksaeter either, and I dunno other European or British brands.
@Gnesen; found something about KHL on forums but nothing for sale.
@Ths364; Don't know any Scandinavian brands or German brands for speakers really.

Like I said, you guys can look here for speakers.

Just cycle trough pages and tell me if you find anything worth to buy.
I can't seem to find anything.

Slovenia (Europe), mentioned in first post.

Sorry ... I missed that ...

You might want to post in the Speakers section with a thread title something like ... European Speakers Under ___ for Pioneer SX-737? ... Fill in the blank with the highest amount of money that you are willing to spend. Most of us are more familiar with American made speakers but I think that there are probably enough members familiar with European made speakers to give you some suggestions.

Wharfdale speakers are usually pretty good. They were made in England. Don't know if the company still exists. If you find a specific model, you can research them online to see what other people think about them.

You mentioned that you don't have thrift stores. Do you have weekend markets where people set up (sometimes out of the "boot" of their car) to sell used merchandise?

Good luck!

This site has sales sheets for many brands over the years and since it is a German site it should have gear that was available in Europe. Spend a month looking at all that info, but if you find some nice looking speakers, be sure to ask here about them and you will get an idea about them.

@Chip - HP;
No worries, thanks. I'll open a thread there and ask.
No we don't have thrift stores or yard sales, never heard or saw out of the boot markets, we have absolutely nothing like that. Stuff goes to trash or gets sold by 1% of people on that page that I posted. We do have two spots that I know of where they sell used stuff, but one is just homeless and poor people that sell trash and other one is in town center each Sunday morning but they sell antiques there and stamps, never saw any speakers or amps it's also packed with people. Will go look tomorrow.

@BlueShadow
Sweet thanks, will check it out.
Man that's allot of brands :D Is there any that I should pay attention the most?

One think you can do is to become known as "the vintage audio guy" in your area. Go to these areas where they sell the antiques and the trash, and start talking to the sellers. Talk to them about their stuff and then start talking about your hobby. Tell them to call you if they ever come across any old stereos and speakers. They will keep you in mind when they see stuff, and you'll be the first person they sell it to. In return, tell them that you'll call them when you find the stuff they like, maybe antique furniture or teapots?

Sounds like an idea, might try that.
Well like I said I went to check it out, but it's pretty disappointing.

Was there for a while didn't find any speakers or amps or turntables, there were like 3 sellers that had allot of vinyls so will go ask them next week if they know any speakers/amps/etc. Was getting ready to rain so they were packing up.
