dunno what a druckers is and I see it was in the ad, I question the year however of 1975 unless they had a wayback machine....(produced 78-80, even if someone got an advance copy, it wasnt 3 years advanced...)

$5 gets you $10 it was an 80 or 81 add and these were non-japanse left overs and the new improved snazzy looking SX3700 was out...
that'd be my guess....In 1978 when I was putting my first, and only, system together, the cheapest sx780 from the discount mailorder houses back then was $232. An sx680 was around $192

Actually got an SX-1980 for $90 at a flea market in '06. If you search you can find the thread I posted when I got it. Couple of broken knobs which have been fixed. I used to get SX-780's for $40 or less back then.

Yes I got a functional super nice SX-780 curbside about 20 years ago. I have also had a couple of occasions where the wife said "get it out of here before my husband knows I sold it" years ago. Surround sound was big at the time and there was not a sense of value among many people for this stuff so many bargains. Also nobody looking values up on cell phones back then like you see at the sales/markets now.

I once saw 2 of them at a thrift a long time ago. They were 35.00 each. I was running an Onkyo TX 2500 ll which I bought for 5.00 at a yard sale, so I left the Pioneers. Dumb.
Two doors down from me was a SX 650 out for the trash in its box some years ago. I spotted the box wondering if it was empty. It wasn’t. Daughter said it was her mother’s stereo and been in the basement for 30 years.
Looks to be overstocked with 780s there. I wonder what the other boxes held at the end of the ad.
I remember running across deals like that all the time too, hard to believe today but it was once a very common occurrence. Going back even further to the mid 70’s and most of the 80’s people were leaving tube receivers and amps by the curb like people do now with CRT TV sets. As expensive as they were to purchase when new they were considered “old fashioned junk” 15-20 years on (not to me though!). Wish I’d held on to all the Dynaco Stereo 120 amps and Fisher / Scott / Harman Kardon tube receivers I used to have (still have one HK tube receiver on the shelf, sadly the rest are long gone). There were lotsa good deals out there before the internet came along, however servicing them was a PITA because schematics and service manuals were very hard to come by until the internet came along, sooo...

Hey Bob, long time no see. Houston markets are totally dry. What happened? Did everyone discover vintage all of a sudden? My SX-850 and CR-2020 still going strong!

Encase anyone is curious. In 2020 dollars it would be $810.81! Wow, i couldn’t afford one then, still couldn’t afford one now!
