Pioneer sx-980 problem?

i have a pioneer sx-980 in great condition. Recently when I am playing it will intermittidly click on and off (sound) not power. It only last for a few seconds then plays fine again. What could cause this? Thanks for any help

Check DC offset first.

I also had a pioneer sg9800 equalizer hooked up. I bi passed it and hasn't done it again yet. Not sure this fixed problem or if that even makes a difference.

sounds like the protection relays kicking in. As tsd said, check the DC offset before letting it go any further. I doubt the EQ has anything to do with it. Check speaker cable for shorts/connections. What speakers are you using? I can do some comparison measurements with my SX-980 if it helps. The only time this happened to mine is when I connected one of those Radio Shack power meters to speaker "B" and selected speaker "A" and "B" at the same time. Turns out the power meter had some issues and the power amp protection worked.

I have 2 sets of speakers hooked up. Marantz ls20 and jbl s310. I do have VERY small cables hooked to the Marantz speakers I need to put better cables on them tonight could that be culprit ?

Are both pairs of speakers selected and operating at the same time? and at what volume? What is the nominal impedance of those speakers?
It could be the over current protection activating (normal) or something is on its way out. It could be DC offset, need to check but i doubt it.
