I'm completely new to turntable and saw this Pioneer PL-560 on Craiglist for about $60. It is in nearly new condition with original box and manual. Any suggestion on this?
I would skip the one you are looking at and hold out for the one BigBill linked to (which I am listening to as I type this ). Seriously, be patient - you can do better.
Well then you'd better drop me a nicely worded PM soon, so that I'll take you where you can find some Dual's, Pioneer's, Garrard's ect. and other goodies that are hiding in some local "spots" I know of.
I also would hold out for the one that Bill linked to. It is a fine turntable. You will be pleased if you get one. Always wondered what Pioneer was thinking when they reused the same model number for a completely different table.:scratch2:
I've got the better of the two PL-560s that Pioneer made. It's truly wonderful but fairly rare and, though I only paid $20 for mine, they usually command a pretty high price.
You did the right thing in asking for opinions here before pouncing on that CL turntable. Keep looking and keep asking. There are some pretty nice tables out there. Sooner or later you'll get yourself a good one.
Well, that might make sense if they did it regularly, but what really happened is that they just created a new numbering series for each year in the 80s. For example, in 1985 their tts were the PL-460, 560, 660, and 960. For 1986 they they added 10 to the number, so you had 470, 570, 670, 770, 970, and so on each year. There were missing numbers here and there, but these were the general patterns they used. By this time I don't really think they put much thought or care into whether the number had been used already.
I have been looking for the Pioneer PL-570 locally.
There have been several false sightings on the local CL in the past few months.
Each time it turns out to be the later version!
Same series (1978), but the PL-516 was belt drive, while the 560 was several steps above, being full auto and quartz lock, direct drive. The 516, however, is no slouch, and there are many happy AK owners.
