:worthless One of the best buys in vintage audio. Only the DCM Timeframes are a better buy under $75.00 in my book.

Okay, here you go:

Got them at the GW for $30 with the original packing boxes...

Very nice Clyde! Those speakers are a bargain for $30. They look to be in outstanding condition. Too bad you didn't get the original stand for them. A low rise stand with a small tilt will really help to focus and image those speakers.

I think I saw you on the Polk Forum today. There is alot of info on those speakers over there. I own a pair of original Model 7's and I love them! You 7C's look like they have the SL2000 tweeter. Some folks find that tweeter a little fatiguing. The Peerless tweeter does much better in that speaker. Polk does sell a replacement soft dome tweeter for the SL2000 which sounds very nice.

Congrats and good luck!

Don't waste $100 on new tweeters that would be inferior (dull and lifeless) to your stock sl2000 tweeters.

With tubes and vinyl, you are in for a treat.

Any fatigue factor can be eliminated with a $3 low value in-line radial mylar cap (1.0 uf/250 v): http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=139881

btw nice speaks

Those look to be in fantastic shape. And at $30 you got a hell of a deal. My experience with my 7B's has been very rewarding. While they sounded very good stock on receiver power I was able to realize every improvement I made behind them, even if it was incrimental. Power amp, preamp, sources, cables; the Polks responded to each step up. I've recently done a recap and some other tweaks that have paid off as well.

I'd run them as is for a while and see how you like them. There is plenty of info on the polk forum regarding upgrades when you're ready. Have fun with the new toys!

Good score!!!!

You are really going to like the 7's. My pair has the peerless, along with the two pair of Monitor 10's. The SDA 1c have the 2000 tweeter, and I am perfectly happy with them.

For serious listening I set my 7's or 10's on 12 - 18" stands toed in a bit. I do have a pair of the stock stands, but I prefer to get them up off the floor a bit. The bass seems to be much tighter and refined.

With good clean power these will bring you LOTS of enjoyment!!!!

Best advice I can give you is hook them up and LISTEN AND LIVE WITH THEM for a bit before you decide that anything needs to be done to them. Let YOUR ears form your opinion. One of only a few vintage speakers I could live with for any extended period of time.

Thanks for all of the replies guys! I just picked up a pair of 8" stands today that have a slight tilt to them. They are the same color as the speakers so they look like they belong together. I will post some pictures later. I haven't spent any time listening to these yet because my head cold has my ears plugged up!

Hi Clyde!
You got a very nice deal for those klassic speaks. I can listen to my 7Bs for extended periods & never get tired of the great sound.

Get to feelin betta 2!

My ears stay stopped up all the time- hook the damned things up and start listening- that way, as your hearing clears, they'll get even better.

Listening to the 7b's right now, with an old Fisher 301 I just picked up last week.
I really like the "b", my brother has the "c" with an SX850 and he loves his.
One speaker you can listen to for weeks on end and never get tired of it. Great deal and a keeper in my book.
I am convinced they sound better than my Monitor 12's, but never had them in the same rig and room.
You will find a few threads about Yamaha gear and Polk's meshing well.
They sound fabulous with the CR 1020.
Our resident Yammie guru has them in his rig.

Clyde, great deal on some wonderful speakers. I like Polk. If I saw any Polks for $30 I'd be all over that like white on rice.

I bought a pair of RTA 8t around 1990 and listened to all kinds of music never wanting more until just recently...I got a good deal on a pair of SDA 2A with tweeter and XO upgraded and 'am playing more music...LPs just loving the SDAs.

NOW...crank those babies up....it'll do wonders for your plugged ears:yes::D:yes: Preston

Carl, insisting on this and spewing it to every new vintage Polk owner is what got you banned over on their forum. Just keep it to yourself.

Like said over there time and time again; if a $3 cap fixed the problem with the brittle sounding tweeters, then the fine Polk engineers would have gone that route instead of designing an excellent silk dome replacement.

BTW, congrats on the find Clyde! I enjoyed my 7b's and will hook up with a pair again down the road.
