Too many years ago but think the first was a system comprised of a MI-3, C22, MC275 and MR71. A pull out from a home where the owner subbed in a MC2100, C26, MR74 since he did not want any obsolete useless tube technology around the house. He gave it to me in exchange for doing the wiring, i.e. unplug the tuner and plug the new tuner in, etc. Had to fininsh the day drinking beer, swimming in the lake and playing with the flight simulator that had built into the hose by the oriignal owner, a pilot. Talk about the ultimatee kid's game.

In 1972 (when I was 15), my father purchased a C26 preamplifier and Mc2100 power amplifier. My Advent speakers sounded much better with these McIntosh components than with my AR integrated amplifier. Five years later I managed to save up enough money (working summers in Alaska while in college) to buy a MA6100 integrated amplifier.

I used the MA6100 for quite a few years, and then was seduced away from McIntosh by audiophile magazines touting more "high-end" brands. My return to McIntosh came about in 1996, after I had purchased a well regarded tube power amplifier that required two trips to the manufacturer for repair in the six months that I owned it. During the second trip back to the manufacturer, I pulled the Mc2100 my father had purchased 23 years earlier off the shelf. It worked flawlessly. I've been acquiring McIntosh components over the last ten years through both the new and used market, and plan to continue doing so.

An MR-74 tuner. Wonderful unit that I have had over twenty years. I have also owned a C-26, C-28, MA-250, and MA-2105. Kept the tuner, and moved on to other gear. Recently came into a MAC 1700 receiver, great unit.

My only piece of Mc gear is a 4 channel car amp. Its an MC420M. It does have the awesome blue meters. Does that count?

Speakers

ML2-Cs. Used but in good condition. Grew up with McIntosh with my dad's original system (ML1-Cs were speakers along with C24 and MC2505).

Started out powering them with 120W/ch Sony receiver. Then upgraded to Denon integrated. Shortly later added MC7100 and quickly (within a week) upgraded to MC7300 and added C36 preamp. This was when I was a junior in college (14 years ago now).

The upgraditis has been with me ever since...MC501s have been calling to me! :music:

MC2120 was my 1st McPurchase...
Picked it up at Audio Classics back when they were in the basement of the post office in Walton, NY.
It replaced a Kenwood M2A that got taken out by a lightening stike.
A step back in terms of power, but a big step foward in quality..

What a great tuner the MR74 is! :tresbon:

The MR74 is what first introduced me to what I call "MMM:" Magical McIntosh Midrange.

I had never heard a tuner sound so natural in the mids (and still have not heard one as good as the MR74 and I've listened to most everything now).

So my experience got me thinking, if they (McIntosh can do this with their tuners, what can they do with their preamps and amps?

Now I have a C28, two MC2205's, one MC2125, one MC2120, an MI-3, and an MX117 - I like the vintage stuff and they way it sounds.

As someone noted in another thread, McIntosh was made for music!:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Can't vote as my first Mac purchase was a MC7100 amp and C36 pre bought together new way back in the fall of 92. The C36 is still in use and the MC7100 is semi retired until I find a use for it. I must add that both of these units have never failed and are still mint in appearance. I have been a McIntosh fan since my teen years and have recomended their product to many many people most of whom can not or will not see the light for a variety of reasons! So sad.
