Also added a Technics SL-QL15 to "the fleet":
So that's a Belt drive (1249) an idler drive (1229Q) and a Direct drive (SL-QL15). two pivoted arms and one linear tracker. For speed, two are AC locked (Duals) and one is Quartz locked (Technics).
The 1249 uses an ADC XLM MKIII (MI) with a new (IE: Rivertone) elliptical stylus, the 1229Q uses a Denon DL-110 (HOMC) with elliptical stylus and the SL-QL15 uses an AT132 (MM) with a VMN40ML (micro linear) stylus. They're all under 150 running hours on the styli.
All three use their own ART Precision Phono Pre preamp that feed into a rebuilt/restored Sansui 8080DB (to the AUX IN, I bypass the built in phono section):
and then out to a pair of Polk RTi-A5's and a Polk power subwoofer. A ten band EQ and a BBE 482i "Sonic Maximizer" are in the loop for when I want to use them, but they are seldom employed when listening to vinyl. The EQ and BBE are mainly used on tape formats: 8 Track (Superscope TDR-830 and a Wollensak 8075) and cassette (Pioneer CT-F750 and a Technics M288X). I haven't really needed them on RtR as of yet. I will use EQ on CD and vinyl sometimes, but that's more about my own hearing deficiencies rather than the equipment itself.
I wanted all types of turntables represented (IE: drive types, arms, etc) as well as cartridges (MM, HOMC, MM, etc) and stli (elliptical, ML, Shiabata, etc). I'm satisfied with what I have, although I'm always on the hunt for a good LOMC cart to add to the mix and something with a shibata stylus.
Other than grabbing an LOMC cart and something with a Shibata stylus sometime in the future (as well as with finishing building my own interconnect cables) this is pretty much "audio endgame" for me.....
