POM PolyOxyMethylene also known as Acetal. Delrin is Dupont's proprietary POMH.

A lot of TT manufacturers are now using POM for platters. Clearaudio switched from Acrylic to POM a few years ago. The advantage of POM over acrylic is the attenuation of the sound energy is far greater. POM has roughly the same Acoustic Impedance as Acrylic and Rigid Vinyl (the LP). In a nutshell energy is easily transferred from the LP into the POM, reducing noise floor of the LP significantly hence more detail retrieval.

I've always wondered if a different mat would take my SP-10 MKII up a notch or two and like @MX117.MC7150 I thought a copper or some other metal alloy might do that. However, based upon your testing a POM platter or mat has a distinct advantage. By chance did you test different thicknesses of POM platters? And I assume you rigidly attached the 30mm POM to the Technic's OEM platter. Do you think a POM mat not bolted to the OEM platter in the 5mm to 7mm thickness would be an improvement?

Sorry for keeping this off topic but hopefully it'll be a resource for the future...

I'm not a fan of copper or any other metal mat as these could have an effect on the cartridge especially MC, google Lenz effect.

I've tried thinner POM and 10mm was no where near 20mm for SQ. For an SP10mk2 20mm is the minimum I use so a decoupled spindle can be added

Pics in order 10mm POM on Gunmetal, 20mm POM on GM, 60mm POM with GM insert, 20mm, POM on OEM platter,

The last pic is an SP10mk2 where the motor has been modified to use an inverted bearing with 30mm POM on 40mm 6061 T6 aluminium.

Technics SL-B200 that I found at the scrapyard while cashing in an aluminium load. I thought I'd clean it, install a new belt and make a quick buck but then I found that the motor was noisy and noticed that the pivot bearings were coated with sugar rust... And since there was no dust cover, I thought it would cost too much to repair for what it was worth. So, I did what any sensible person would do, I scavenged the good parts and binned the rest in the recycling bin lol But then, the day after, a video of the late OddboxTopper made me realize that I could use it to clean my records. So, I fished out the shell, reassembled the thing, ditched the tonearm and installed an On/Off switch. Voila.

Note: I did clean it and I did install a new belt.

Russco is on my radar but I know it would be a bigger project.

It’s so worthwhile though..! They’re very solid, super durable, good sounding and FUN..!! Once cleaned and lubed, you don’t have to mess with ‘em for a long time. Maybe once a year, just a drop of oil here & there.
I like that Russco quite a bit.. :)
 
Wait, what. How'd you get my Mk I. ;) I put a Grace 707 on mine in the 70's. I had a Sonus Silver P on it back then, but now I can't get a stylus. I recently got a Grace F9 and a Soundsmith stylus. How did you manage to mount the arm? As I remember, when installed with the Grace mount, the arm is too high. I skipped the supplied mount. I put it in a hole I'd drilled in the armboard. I don't remember if I intended it to be, but it's a friction fit. Now you can't budge it. Glad I got it right the first time.
