I wished I had an area close around here where I could do some dirt riding.. Like most others, it's where I started riding. Well.. ok.. started with a mini-bike, then went to dirt... the very first bike I ever crashed was a yellow suzuki dirt bike.. man.. they were a lot different then.. all metal.. and flat as a board with very little suspension.. the front axle snaped on me coming off a small jump.. buried the forks, and you know where I went..

Like I was saying up farther.. I'm sure I'll have an old man's bike very similar to that before this time next year.. good looking bike.. I like the diamond plate deflectors you added.. they help much? I've seen a lot of people add them in that area to the older wings..

It was a great ride.. just under 70f today... not a whole lot of traffic, and only had to lay on the air horns once for some lady that ran a red light right in front of me... So glad I look before taking off with a green light...

The wife was really happy we got to ride in today too :)

Now that looks like a blast... Would love to try some road racing on a track like that.

I had a friend that used to race a ducatti, but lost a friend on the track in a stupid accident on a practice day, so he decided to seel the bike and hang up the leathers. Figured dirt riding would be safer... he bought a dirt bike.. rode about 6 months, then wiped out doing about 35 and messed him up really bad.. he said he should have stuck to the road.. go figure..

....."Trip Treasure"....thoughts about the special parts of the trip just or last taken....remembering that straightaway you nailed it on and races and such....here's what happened when I took my '92 maroon V-Max out one night with two 600 crotch-rockets.....

.....this was in about '95 and I was back in the mechanical dept of UP....my regular job was in the big shop running a 35 ton overhead crane via a three-levered over-the-shoulder crane-box, but this night I was working a low-lube job on running road engines at the service-track for overtime....two young guys rode 600 crotch-rockets to work and I parked by '92 V-Max beside them....this was right beside two picnic tables out front guys walked 20 feet to get to....later in the shift I asked the two Guys if they wanted to ride when we got off at 11....they both said they wanted to quickly, there's nothing like Guys to ride with.....

.....everybody at the service track goes outside about 15 minutes before the whistle, and the crotch-rockets were already putting on a show....the wide two-lane 'middle road' on yard property goes right in front of the service track....they were both bringing them up and walking them, but one guy seemed real good at it....I started my upright-sittin' V-Max, and let it idle....

.....5 minutes before the whistle, I mounted the machine and pulled out easy....I just rode around easy letting the temp come to normal....the whistle blew, and fellow workers headed for their car....me and the two sport-bikes headed out on a US Highway, and had a good time just cruising for about an hour....we stopped at an all-nite convenience store and got cokes for them and coffee for me....

.....(continued next post).....

.....we had wound around to Greenbrier, AR (sp-?), and there's a two mile 4-lane straightaway "well lit" leaving there....I said, "Guys, how about I get out front going about 55-60, and when I stand on second, you give it all you got?"....they both smiled big and said fine....here we went....we used both lanes, and the 600 crotch-rockets were about 15 feet behind me on both sides and were right in my mirrors with dimmed headlights....I downshifted to 4th and then to 3rd just holding right at 55+....I looked back at them quick and then stood on second....the V-Max LEAPS in second gear....I quickly came to just over 80, and grabbed 3rd....the headlights were right in the same spots in my mirrors....at about 110+, I grabbed 4th and wrapped it, same spot in the mirrors.....about 3-4 seconds later with me doing 125, both crotch-rockets came into their element, and came beside me, passing me.....I hit 5th, killed the gas, and began a long Raaaaaack, with the crotch-rockets SCREAMING right beside me, then away from me...."Trip Treasure", indeed....I felt like a big booster rocket falling off.....

.....they both told me later they were giving it all they had....I've been told the newer 600 crotch-rockets these days would beat a V-Max handily in a quarter, but I'd have to see it....I made my '92 a female when I put 4-into-4 slip-on slash-cut pipes on it, but it sure sounded good....sounded like a small-block Chevrolet.....

.....I called it my "Harley V-Max", and it still looks great with lots of chrome, I gave it to my Son-In-Law....this 2002 is a carbon-fiber covered Male, Buddy, and I'll never mess with the 4-into-2 factory-tuned exhaust-system.....

Thank's Mulester7, I wasn't quite flying when I had the spill but I was doing about 40-45, 4th out of 6 pinned. A couple things went wrong,I got in between gears panicked a bit then hit a sand patch then from there everything went wrong! bad shifting, panic, lost my stiff arms got head shake and down I went all is well though hahaha I cant wait to get back out on it again!

I never crashed my rm-80, I wish I still had that bike!!!

That old rear suspension was an easy fix for a little extra travel,a little repositioning, welding and bolting on the shocks in there new position and there good!
I must say for my first crash it wasnt to bad I DIDN'T enjoy it hahaha but it wasn't to bad at all a little sore and now im 100%!

Yes, it is a lot of fun. I've gotten into accidents on the track but luckily nothing too long term. The worst was when a guy cut over and hit my front wheel with his rear. I basically high sided across the track. Luckily it was after a really sharp turn so the speeds were down. My shoulder wasn't right for a while. That said, I think that the track tends to be safer than the road. No place is safe though. The worst injury I've ever suffered was near the bottom of the hill when I was just cruising in on skiis. Caught an edge, bindings didn't release but my knee did. Never been right and never will. Whatcha' gonna' do, stay home and knit?!?
