Luckily there was some lightning activity although the vast majority of this storm went south. I'm beginning to get some of the buildings and whatnot in the shots. I was shooting solely for lightning previously, but have been making an attempt to maintain some visibility for the ground aspect of the image.
The one thing I haven't quite mastered yet is daylight lightning. Haven't had much success there. Part of that is due to the vast majority of the storms here are at night. The daylight storms thus far haven't been good this year for lightning due to them being rain and fog wrapped. I don't think that you have quite the range during daylight hours, either. What shows up brightly at night at a distance won't be nearly as visible as night time strike. I'm referring to strikes that are over a mile or two away.

I use Darkroom. It's the only image editor I use, although I don't consider myself particularly skilled at editing. The toughest part for me was figuring out how to manage colors, and that's an ongoing learning experience. Most of my workflow involves crop, exposure, sometimes sigmoid, sometimes local contrast, sharpness, retouch if necessary, haze removal if necessary (usually on macro images) then denoise. Naturally, these are only used if necessary, and that's not a strict order either. Quite often I'll put off exposure adjustment until the end because some edits can affect it.
I'll also use tone equalizer at times.
There are videos on YouTube that provide guidance. Sometimes they're a bit older and on another release of Darktable, but you'll get the basic concept of how to use it. It's taken me quite a while and a lot of playing with images to improve.
Doing de-noise last seems unusual to me. Can you explain more?
A daytime lightning strike. A rarity for me, but there are storms rolling through today so I get a chance to improve.
This is the only borderline acceptable image I got out of two cameras for 30 - 40 minutes. Most of the lightning was too distant for the wide angle lenses I'm using. I'm thinking about popping a telephoto zoom on when lightning is further out to see how well that works. I have a 70-350 APS-C zoom that actually covers most of the frame on a FF body, and a 70-300 for the other camera. I would switch to the wide angle lenses when the lightning gets closer.
That's pretty much how it looked. I'll count this as a win. I got some color and the lightning is clearly visible. It's not a good picture, but at least I'm heading in right direction.
