New camera test image. I just got my SIGMA DP1 Merrill yesterday. It is one of the rare cameras that used the FOVEON sensor. It is a 3-layer sensor with 15MP on each layer - Red, Blue, Green. It's a compact camera with fixed 19mm f/2.8 lens. It has a following for being able to produce color that looks like film. I'll have to have it a while before I can judge that, but the first images look nice.

Took these out and about today while in what we call the exchange district.Love the architectural design and buildings with advertising on them.Theres alot.

I came home the other day and saw my guys, Izzy and Teddy peering down the stairs at me. I had about three seconds to snap this.

Those Merrills have been on my radar since they were first introduced. Would be nice to see what other manufacturers could do with that sensor. Th colors seem to pop pretty nice.

I went out and shot the first dozen pics with RAW+JPG. So, the raw files have to be run through SIGMA PRO RAW processor, which I used for the first time today. Probably I will need to actually read the manual to squeeze the most out of it. So, I go from the Sigma Pro to decode the RAW and create a TIF, then use ON1PHoto to process the TIF.

The camera has limitations. It is for slow shooters. You can't do sports or action, because it takes about 6-seconds to store each shutter depression. Fine with me, I don't shoot sports. The lens on the DP1 is 19mm which is 28mm in 35mm equivalents. The camera controls are well done - simple, not overly complicated and not a lot of nested menus. Pretty sweet, so far.
