New camera test image. I just got my SIGMA DP1 Merrill yesterday. It is one of the rare cameras that used the FOVEON sensor. It is a 3-layer sensor with 15MP on each layer - Red, Blue, Green. It's a compact camera with fixed 19mm f/2.8 lens. It has a following for being able to produce color that looks like film. I'll have to have it a while before I can judge that, but the first images look nice. View attachment 3839125View attachment 3839126

The Foveon RGB spectral responses are wide IIRC, while film responses are narrow. So, if the Foveon camera looks like film color-wise, it's probably due to the camera's signal processing rather than the sensor response. It does have an advantage in lack of color moire that can happen with a medium resolution Bayer sensor, but most of the advantage disappears with current high-resolution Bayer sensors that are approaching the resolution of the lens.
