Felt like a return to the tone of the movies of my childhood. A lot of media took a darker turn 25 years ago. Project Hail Mary took a gritty premise and infused it with optimism.

What you say regarding recent trends in such sci-fi movies is true, my problem is that modern sci-fi is no longer the amazing story telling it was from the 50s-70s. There is really nothing new.

^^ you know, thats an excellent point. Plenty of movies just have too much going on that don't really do anything to move the story forward.
