It been a minute since I posted a build on the forum. Well - I am still heating up the iron and restoring units on the weekends for fun.

About a month ago, a big G-unit popped up locally. Price was reasonable (whatever that means nowadays) and really don't ever see these big Sansui(s) around here. It was listed with an intermittent issue. My son sports a G-7500 that was rebuilt 2 years ago. Love that G-7500 on its looks alone, but was hoping one day for G-7000 or G-8000.

Nice thorough work as usual, looking forward to the rest.....
These amplifiers are actually very stable and reliable, I wouldn't go too crazy on it, but definitely get rid of those transistors with the plastic tubes!! What were they thinking??
You should be able to also get transistors (TO126) that you do not have to twist the legs on, I have never had to do that before.
They also have 4 holes in the board for those transistors so you can use a centre collector or centre base transistor....Have a second look...

There are a few grouping of electros caps installed back-to-back for a NP setup... keep in mind that reduces the capacitance to 25% of the total (or 50% of one of the capacitors when the values are the same in series). In these cases, I installed a NP (or bi-polar cap) at 25% total value where these were once installed. Ctotal = 1/(1/C1 +1/C2).

While doing the tone board... be sure to clean the pots with contact cleaner then lube 'em up. After cleaning pots, I like to flush / lube with F5. Many times I desolder them to clean - but not needed for these tone pots.

One of the best thing a person with steady hands should do = is clean the contacts on the toggle switches and coupling switch. Brasso is the chemical of choice for the contact posts... and a light pull of contacts across a folded piece of paper is my move. Finally when clean, I hit with a shot of F5. Desolder the switches, disassemble, clean, reassemble, put back on board = rinse and repeat (this takes hours on hours along with plenty of four letter words along the way - this is particular work for sure).

Speaker spring clips were changed to binding posts with banana plugs. (have done this before on the G-7500 and plenty of pioneer gear with those lovey spade connectors).
