If what you have is a G-9000, don't use it, until you get those capacitors changed. They will be running at 10 or 12V above their maximum rating which may work for a short while, but expect them to fail in spectacular fashion at any moment - this would be a very bad thing indeed and may take other irreplaceable components with them when they let go.

Hi, I want to order those caps but I'm afraid order from ebay, I checked Mouser site and found Nichicon 8200 uf/80v (only 3 in stock) and Chemi-con 12000 uf/80v when Nichicon is 45mm length and Chemi-con is 65mm. Please advise me which is better from the two and if 80v is OK or better to put 100v? Thank you.
 
100V would be fine…. You want plenty of room to bolt the new cap (wired) to the old terminal blocks. 63mm might make the install difficult to not possible…. watch increasing capacitance more than 20-30% as it could stress the bridge rectifier. Did you check digikey or arrow?
 
I didn't open the receiver yet (it's in stereo stand with all other stuff it's really heavy receiver) I'm just check things before ordering the caps and operating it. Thanks!
 
Do you have any suggestions where to buy those caps? I look on Maoser site but they don't have in stock 8200uf/10000uf 100v. Thank you.
 
I didn't know that TDK are also suitable for audio. I understand from you that 100v is better than 80v. I thought buying something like 10,000uf/100v but those dimensions caps are too high and large and will not fit into the cans so I will buy as your suggestion 82,000/80v. Thank you!
 
We are talking about a ton of work to change these on this iconic Sansui.
Told you what I would use…. But I also said the ChemiCon were fine too.
These are the main power (rails) DC filter capacitors… I use TDK all the time (as well as Kemet, Nichicon, Chemi-con for the main DC filter capacitors). I study the specs and try to pick best for the particular application (including value trade off)
 
Best not to 'cheap-out' on these, they are very important, you are looking for the right component, not the cheapest one you can get away with. Super Noob is very experienced (perhaps despite his username :)), do follow his advice. ;)

Hi, I ordered TDK and got EPCOS. Is it the same?
What I see is that on Mouser it is written Mfr. TDK/EPCOS.
 
Hi Super Noob!!!, Excellent work and very detailed. A few days ago a friend brought me a G-9000 to make improvements and I am following your work step by step!
The first sound test I did before making any changes resulted in a flat sound with no depth or brightness.
Compared to other Sansui equipment that I have restored before, it is far in quality.
After your restoration, what was the result of the audio tests? I imagine that super good, but I await your comments.
