Unless you have obvious issues with noise or something else, or you're crazy like the OP ;-), I would start with just replacing electrolytic capacitors, tantalum capacitors, and cleaning all switches and pots per protocol. if you have no expertise for this kind of work, I would definitely recommend shopping it out to someone else, because the 2010 is absolutely worth a couple hundred extra dollars at the end of the day to make sure the job is done right and the unit is still working when the solder smoke clears!

As someone with no expertise about to undertake this exact project on a ca2010 I took it to a repair shop and they quoted me $800-$900 for less work than this so I’m going to learn by doing haha. Great post here. Really helpful.

Just read through all of this and I applaud the OP for the time and effort put into this. The end result is a one of a kind system. CDFAC above touched on this a bit, but I wanted to field this question out there to see what everyone's thoughts are. Beside replacing electrolytics, tantalums film caps in the signal path and the fusistors, what other components should be replaced from the perspective of preventative maintenance (while it is already opened up.) I would be interested in doing anything that will create an audible improvement to sound quality and protecting the unit from things known to fail. For example, I don't replace transistors unless they are bad or on the 'see it, replace it' list, but is there any real value in proactively replacing the main power outputs and pre-drivers?

Note: The unit I have is working fine (save blown out meter lamps and noisy pots/switches). Bias adjustment was no issue and the sound was great and no noise that I could detect.

I am currently planning the restoration of my CA-2000 (JDM CA-2010). To say that this thread is incredibly helpful would be an extreme understatement. Many many thanks for your meticulous documentation. If at all possible, can you please provide more detail on parts used, or a schematic, for the LED conversion?
 
I am being told that I have DC on one or both Main Boards. I have checked every component on both boards and have not found anything defective. Since these boards become buried in the heat sinks when installed how does one troubleshoot them?

Are you measuring excessive DC voltage at the amps output? What does "I am being told" mean? There are trimmers to adjust DC offset on this unit. Is it coming out of protection?
 
Have you tested all resistors, including the white ceramic ones out of circuit? What is the measured DC offset for each board? Does DC offset respond to trimmer adjustment? Did you replace the bias and DC offset trimmers?

When I went through mine, I found many drifted resistors that made setting the bias correctly not possible.
