Pure i-20 iPod dock

This mod does not work with current generation iPods, only 4th, 5th and 5.5th and costs $250. Plus iPods don't last forever. I'd save $150 and get the Pure i-20 instead.

Didn't say it was perfect, just presenting an alternative for testing.
 
I think the Red Wine mods were a good alternative a few years ago. Since then a number of portable players have come out that are better than a standard iPod from a fidelity standpoint (e.g., Cowon, HifiMan, etc.).
 
Got mine today and it is great. I hooked it up to a Beresford DAC with both my iPad and iPhone 3GS via coax and it works with both. I have a 1 Gen iPod touch that I stopped using when I got an iPhone. For fun, I tried it out and to my surprise it worked..even with a jailbreak I had on it. I decided to remove the jb and update the Touch to the newest version it would allow and just install music and music apps on it. I tested it with the digital optical just to be sure it worked, too.

I am going to keep the Touch/Pure setup in the kitchen (with a Super t-amp and Presidian speakers) until it gets warmer and at that point I will move it to the sunroom or just buy another one if we use it a lot.

I tried the component cables, since I plan on taking it on trips, so we can plug it into the TV for watching movies. There was some noise in the picture, but I can live with it for limited use. I don't think I would use it for that at home, though.

Anyway, I am impressed with the many audio options. I may get some more over time to pair up with DACs around the house. We have another old Touch we could put to use.
 
Got mine today. What a great product! It seems to be built solid and not a cheap plastic thing like some docks. It has some heft to it for its size. I'm listening to it now using the digital coax out to my Music Hall 25.3 DAC and it sounds superb!

I have not tried the internal DAC it comes with but I am not really interested in that part of the product as I have the MH but it begs the question how good it is.

It does not work with my gen 5 ipod so I assume gen 5 and older is not compatible.

The Pure isn't bad on its own (esp. considering the price). I run mine into a Musical Fidelity VDAC, which is MUCH more refined. I imagine the MH is as well.
 
If someone has an older Ipod that doesn't work with the dock that should, they should take it up with Pure (I'd like to see how good their customer service is ;) ).
 
Correct. The iPod has to have the Apple chip that handshakes with the dock. Got to be a Classic or Touch or newer.

thanks all for sharing experience, I got mine yesterday - very nice sound indeed. I got Linn Classik, and use RCA output to listen my iPhone 4G mp3 files. I am soo glad that I have made this purchase: detailed and yet pleasant sound (probably Linn should take most of credit for smoothness). Love it more and more - gotta get decent interconnects for it tho. I have also heard about AC power unit upgrade, any info on that guys?
 
Bummer I missed this by 0.5 g. My 5.5 g, 80 gb iPod is doing just fine. I'm not going to spend $450 on the Red Wine / ALO iMod when I can get a new 160 gb classic and the Pure i-20 for $100 less.

Smooth yes, but wait till you run it through a V-DAC - stunning :)
 
I also tried it with my 160 gb classic and it works with it, too. I think it is a 5th Gen version, but I am not positive.

I see the Touch & iPhone supported back to the 2nd G, but the newest iPod I see supported is the 6th G Classic; that would leave out my 5.5 Video and older, as well as the original series.....
