Pure i-20 iPod dock

I don't know about the Pure, but the lack of on screen menus has been the most annoying feature of my Apple dock.

Your logic is impeccable, but current (AV) receivers have a minijack input 'for docks', which I guess is the reason for including that type of cable.
 
Ahhhhh, that explains it. I still have a hard time equating music to a home theater system. I love my 5.1 for movies and concert films, but 2 channel music belongs on a two channel system.
 
OK, spent an hour or so listening through my headphone station with this. I used the internal DAC of the i-20 and did not connect any of the video options. The unit is very well built, feels solid, and looks sharp. The iPod touch makes a solid connection with no top-heavy feel.
The sound through my Melos headphone amp and Grado 325is is very nice, even the lower bit rate songs were more enjoyable than through the iPod alone. The remote allows you to scroll and select by artist, songs, playlists, etc but with all of the buttons being the same (and very small) I made several errors in the dark. Only a minor irritant, I'll start to remember them with use. My first impression is a good one. It's remarkable that such a solid, well-performing item is so inexpensive.

I have an AVR and it handles two channel better than my stereo only systems.

The mini output also works with some portable amps. I could hook it to my PAV2V amp and hook that to headphones.

Thought I'd bump this thread to see if anyone had any more thoughts on this unit. Seems like a pretty good deal for a hundred beans.
 
One nit has emerged...

Every time I power it on ( I leave the iPod in it always) it comes up with the volume very low. The only way to increase it is with the remote. It seems to disable the volume controls on the side of the pod as well as the on screen slider. Wish the default was higher.

Other than that I love it. It supplies Pandora to my main system.

I've had mine for about a month or so, but last week I bought a Peachtree iDAC. All things considered it's a more useful unit. It's easier to use and has all the inputs I could want. Of course it's quite literally 10Xs the price so I'm not comparing like items, but my Pure dock won't see much use now. I might put it on BT in the next day or two.
 
Just realized my last post might be construed as a negative one; it isn't. I'm happy with the performance of this little gem. I think I'll bring it to work, it's small size is perfect for a desktop system.
 
I hear nothing but good things about those peachtree poducts. I think the main value of the pure is the digital out so you can use the DAC of your choice. If you already have a good DAC it is hard to beat.
 
Dude....I have the Decco2, using it as a DAC/Pre amp in my main system and the iDAC in my bedroom system. I can't say enough good things about them.
 
Thanks for the additional input guys, however I still can't seem to determine if the ipod's own music menu will show up on my monitor via the Pure's video output. This is pretty important to me as I would not be able to see what I'm navigating on my ipod Classic's small display from across the room. I may still purchase it just because the price is so attractive and as far as the Peachtree products go I've seen LOT'S of positive press on them, Peachtree's product development team seems to really know where audio is headed with some really creative products.

I just got mine today and am running a Touch 4G into a MHDT Labs Havana DAC playing plain jane Pandora and it sounds quite good. :music:

You are really going to enjoy this gadget. :yes: Well worth the price. :D
 
I had the same question and, unfortunately, I had it confirmed today from Pure that the dock will only show videos, not ipod's music menu. Curious as to why that's the case. I saw that the Cambridge id 100 has the same limitation. Do you need something special to show the menu on a tv?

By the way, searching for information about the pure i-20, this was the most informative thread I found out there. Thanks to everyone who posted - great info. And I think I'm going to be getting the i-20. Aside from the above noted limitation, it seems to be a pretty good deal.

Since it extracts the digital stream from the iPod, the iPod's volume controls are completely bypassed, aren't they? I would have thought the volume ws controlled by what amounts to a preamp inside the dock, that comes in line after the dock's DAC.
