RAA1 AM Antenna Box

What is inside an RAA1 AM antenna box? Is it just a small trimmer cap and tuning coil with a lot of empty space? When is it better than the ferrite rod antenna?

The only thing good about it is that its plug matches the AM antenna plug on the TM-1 tuner module. I think that a user of the TM-1 would have to jigger around this the connector quite a bit in order to make another AM antenna work with it. I can assure you (as a former owner of one of these) that both the TM-1 and RAA1 have very mediocre performance. The AM antenna (Model RAA-2) that came with my MR-88 pulls in DX stations much better since it's much more directional than the RAA-1.. I can do IBOC/HD AM decode on WBBM-AM in Chicago, WLW-AM in Cincinnati, and KMOX-AM in St. Louis as well as WOWO-AM in Fort Wayne from my location here in South Bend, IN.
