Racks that require break in and drastic changes

My apologies I knew better then to ever touch my key board while reading something in this forum. I see now I was right the first time I have no place discussing this type of stuff. It is so far over my head and experience that I can as I did only get into trouble opening my mouth.

Please ignore me in the future.

Everyone's opinion is welcome, Mark. However, we need to remain respectful to each other.

And I apologize to Mark for taking a cheap shot.I too, should have stayed away from this thread.I have zero knowledge in this area, and can add nothing constructive to this discussion.I hope everything works out for the OP as far as the sonics of this setup is concerned.

Thank you, Jimmy, for both of these posts. Lets keep this thread on track.

So where do we stand hour wise at this point?
Regards,
Jim

By my calculations, this should be over by January 19th, at the latest (if on January 6th, the break-in test was 4 hours old). 300 hours equals 12-1/2 days. So, mark your calendars.

We are at about 158 hours now so just past half way. What I noticed yesterday is if I sat down and listened to a few songs I was treated to at-least one really good and something may be off a bit on others. It seems to be getting very promising in that yesterday it played I think three songs seemingly without crazy stuff happening. I don't have time this morning to listen but will try again this evening.

Most of the bass seems good and strong though it is subject to come and go. The biggest thing I'm missing now it seems is mid range seems to be missing in some frequencies or just very thin. Stage is sounding awesome and for the most part most of the bass notes are full and detailed. Hi tweeter is very good but that could be a part of some mids not being there to. Definitely changing and seemingly for the better. Funny how it can play a song just incredible and seemingly nothing missing but over all plenty seems still undone.

I would have shot myself in the face with a bazooka by now. You have the patience of Jobe.

I've witnessed vibrations causing soundstage and imaging issues. I've also experienced component break in. But in this case... :scratch2:

I can see what seems to be one "issue" already. If the OP is listening to the system while going about his business (meaning moving around in the room, sitting in different places, etc.) significant changes in the sound, especially bass, may well be true because of cancellation/reinforcement of room modes. Sometimes it takes only a matter of a few inches to make a really big difference in how the waves add or subtract.

Good point Whoaru99. A cheap calibrated audio and electrical measuring system like Clio and at least a single accelerometer placed near the leg of each component will reveal what the stand is contributing and eliminating too unless its below Clio's sensitivity threshold.

All my reports come from the listening position, if I say I heard something from upstairs or the bar, that isn't really the report. I always sit in the listening chair for three to five songs if I can stand it. I think there was one time I just couldn't take it because of the brightness.

By the way I have the best bass right now I've ever heard. I've got Burning For Buddy, A tribute to Buddy Rich in the player and have had it in since yesterday on repeat. I figure if these racks need to feel different frequency and all how it affects the components that this disc has a more broad band of frequency than anything I have maybe. Next up will be Sheffield Lab Drum and Track disc. Right now the bass is better than I heard my system or any system produce with the detail and tightness and just pure punch with even flow and no boomy at all, WOW! Actually everything sounds really good now. I get none of the piercing notes I remember with some of these songs and all the horns a blowing and sometimes one horn would just seem to be fatiguing and I would want to turn it down. Its all so nice and smooth now I want to turn it up. Loving it!!
