Rare, hard to find, uncommon Pioneer components

No kidding this time... :rflmao:

The following tuner model was only available on the Japanese market, so it is quite rare to find it outside of Nippon.
It is the TX-9900 tuner, which was specifically offered as a perfect complement to the far more well-known top-of-the-range amplifier SA-9900!

The problem with the shifted FM scale of the Japanese tuners can be easily solved with a frequency converter.
The TX-9900 is in roughly the same league as the Exclusive F3 tuner, with only a slight downgrade in the input circuit and the display instruments.

The TX-9900 and the SA-9900 are in perfect harmony on top of each other. I particularly love this combination :music:

So what is the "SW-9500?"

The TX-9900 is wild, no AM? and it's JDM FM only.
Of course, the SW-9500 model was never made by Pioneer. It is a DIY device :rflmao:

I had the problem that I wanted to connect several amplifiers to two pairs of speakers without having to pull any plugs. According to my information, Pioneer has built similar switches, but not for the consumer market, but only in very small numbers for dealers as a sales aid.
That's why I quickly built a switch that matches my other Pioneer devices (2 pairs of speakers on 6 sources). The control buttons and the front panel are made of solid aluminum, like the original devices. The case comes from a Pioneer SA-410...

And yes, the TX-9900 is a pure FM receiver. An absolute top tuner, like the Exclusive F3 or the TX-9500II.
Unfortunately, the TX-9900 never came to the market outside of Japan! Hence the problem with the shifted frequency range...

Oh yea, now we're talking, nice job! A guy over on Stereo2go.com made a "vintage silver" Sony CDP-555 player kind of similar. Old case with new guts that matches his silver Sony Stack, I love this kind of work, it would make a great stand-along thread, unfortunately I haven't done anything cool like that.

That's a really good idea!
Maybe I'll actually start a thread like that. There are definitely some DIY projects worth seeing in the Audiokarma community's craft caves.
I could also contribute one or two things to that...

Another piece intended only for Japanese market which the previous owner brought over.
SX-100TA, also note the tuning range and has voltage switch on the back for 110V. The SX-1000TA was the international version release a year or so after. Just recently finished restoring it and building the new case.

I've started downsizing my collection some of late. Just sold a beautiful pair of HPM-150 Speakers, never see too many of them out there. Sold them to a fellow audiophile from the LA area a few weeks ago. I think the next hard to find items is a complete set of the SX-50 Series of receivers (All 8 in beautiful condition). Individually not crazy hard to find but as entire series .............. :)
