A couple of receivers, a couple of mini amps, three cassette decks, four turntables and at least twenty pairs of speakers. Yes, I guess I am a collector.

Not a collector. Radio Shack/Realistic products just offered a cheap affordable entry into audio. And in the used market it can still fly under the nose radar because of the snoot factor. Although some products seem to have been outed.

My first "real" stereo: Realistic STA-250 receiver (died when dropped); speakers: Nova 8B front (gave away regretfully), Solo 3A rear.

Used: Realistic STA-77 receiver (nice warm and detailed - this is what revived my interest in vintage); speakers: Nova 7B, Minimus 7 (x2). Speakers MC-2001 (despite range very pleasant listen).

Pics of STA-2080 (very clean sound, only thing dark is the dial):

I have an STA-2600 receiver. The folks over at FMTunerInfo.com claim the sta-2600 has four gangs and has the most sensitive selectivity of all the Realistic recievers with 100 watts per channel to boot.

---snip--- At one time I had three of the SA-175C amps, plus two of the matching TM-175B tuner, but I sold all that except for one of the amps. What a great little amp for the size. Pretty low power but it has a very nice headphone amp, plus a nice phono stage. Not amazing but nice enough.

At 24w peak power it IS a great little amp for the size. I owned the B new in '71 and, as a step up to the SA-100B (at 10w peak, you can see part of it in the left of the photo) at that time, I was disappointed. I just found the C on the bay and the bass and treble controls that were added between B & C revisions were a big plus! The B also had smaller switches and the volume control was in the center of the panel.

I feel for you, man. I did the same thing with a '60's Les Paul I sold 20 years ago for $300. What was I thinking???

Only one bit of Radio Shack gear, it's from 67 and I enjoy it.

Your house was probably only 15-20 years old when that tuner came out. Is that the TM-8D?

I would love to be a realistic collector. So far I only have some beat up MC-1200 speakers. They sound really good though!

I remember the model I'm not sure what the 1200's look like. From what you say they must sound better than my MC-1000's. Maybe there's something wrong with mine, maybe it's just me, maybe they don't suit hard rock music but my 1000's just don't cut it for me.

BUT... They are in extremely good condition and are the epitomy of what I think a pair of bookshelf speakers should be (ie: right size, walnut cabs, black cloth, etc.) and that's why I keep them.

I'm not a collector but I do have an STA-19 receiver and SCP-31 cassette deck which are compact models. Also, recently bought a LAB-400 turntable at a flea market, and remarkably, the dust-cover doesn't have a scratch on it. And one pair of Minimus 7 speakers, which I always felt were the absolute best-sounding speakers the Shack ever offered. Oh, and a pair of the RCA bookshelf speakers with the Linaeum tweeters. I don't use the receiver and cassette deck, but the rest of the items get used occasionally in a tertiary system.

My collection includes
A nice silver 10-band equalizer, Optimus -18 speakers that cost $1.92 for the pair, MC-500 bookshelf speakers, Optimus 990 speakers with the 15" woofer and horn, and my newest addition, The Realistic Modulette Receiver! 40 watts power consumption!

OK, its not much, but sometimes I'm drawn to the kind of stuff I might have actually afforded as a kid. This thing would have been a big step up from the realistic Clarinette-1 that was my brother and I's first stereo (that we bought with pooled allowance money). (Assuming we could have miraculously come up with additional funds for a turntable and speakers- that's why we got the Clarinette-1, it was all in one and $70 IIRC).

TM-6 tube FM stereo tuner
DX-150 SW Receiver
DX-160 SW Receiver
DX-302 SW Receiver
DX-440 portable SW Receiver
Pro-2004 Scanner
Pro-2022 Scanner
TRC-24B CB set !
Several smaller EQs, audio processors, switches and an assortment of miscellaneous radios and stuff.

I used to have a pristine STA-2100 receiver but it blew a channel and since RS couldn't get parts for it, I sent it to the great recycling center in the sky. :sadwave: That was a year before I discovered AK and had any idea what I actually had.

And a fully expanded TRS-80 Model I computer, expansion bay, 5" floppy drive, 300 baud modem, and all 48K of memory too!
I Wonder what it would take to get it to run iTunes?

There is probably more buried around here but that is all that comes to mind at the moment.

3 Realistic STA 2600s(2 are parts units) An STA 2270 on the way...Mach 2 speakers...

The 2270/2280 and the 2600 have some of the best fm tuner sections....My 2600 effortlessly pulls in stations from far away.
