Realistic Collectors?

Nice pick-up!
Here's a link to one of their catalogs. It dates from at least 1977 and it listed for about $359 and is rated 45 wpc.

Thanks for the link.I ended up going through a lot of those catalogs. I always used to love the neat things they carried in their stores so it was like a trip down memory lane.
I just noticed the panel light at the far end of the receiver,towards the tuning dial,is burnt out.Where could i find a new bulb?

Here's a picture i took of the new addition.Time to build upon it!

Yeah those catalogs are great. I've known about the site for a while and refer to it anytime I see something interesting for sale that's Realistic. I've also browsed it a lot to discover most of the stereo systems my parents ever had as well as a lot of the birthday and christmas presents that my brothers, sisters, self had gotten in our childhood. Makes one remember a lot of things that are long gone.

sta-2080

Yes, I have a sizable collection of their great 70's stuff. The build quality and sound is second to none in many instances. I've always been a fan.

STA-90
STA-52B

---snip--- Everyone has been out for the quickest buck, Quality be damned !! I know some of the names are no longer associated with the companies and are just being used as selling gimmics---snip---

You can't blame the Shack, though. Everybody has to follow everyone else or they're on their butts. It's just like cell phones and the Internet- when everyone starts using it everyone else has to get it, too, or be left in the dust.

Definitely

Over the years I have owned, SA 2000 int amp, Lab 400 TT, SCT 30 cassette deck(awesome unit, 3 heads bias fine adj and dolby calibration adj, made excellent tapes), 5 band equalizer, and Optimus T-200 speakers(3 way, 2 10" woofers, efficient spl, sweet sound). All pieces were excellent performers. All have been sold over the years as I bought new pieces. I recently acquired a SA 2000 amp and I am so totally happy with it. At first I was going to use it as the sound source for my video unit, but after getting re-acquainted with it, I picked up a 3 way monitor switch and tied it in to my main system. And if I could ever find another set of the T-200's, I would snap them up too. Definitely under rated, probably because most people related to the cheap stuff that Radio Shack sold, but the upper end stuff was good quality. If I knew then what I know now I would never got rid of any of it.

I love my Realistic TM-7 FM analog tuner. Any idea how old these are? My guess is around 1970. Sounds full, great tone, and clear. Almost as enjoyable as my Accuphase T101. Got the Realistic at a thrift for $5. I keep changing around my gear but the little tuner stays with me.

I always looked down my nose at their stuff but I am learning that they actually made some good stuff! What are some good cassette decks of theirs to look out for?

I added a few new vintage realistic items this weekend to my collection. I found a TR-803 stereo 8-track record/play deck still in the original box with manual. A LAB-24 TT still in the original box also had the dust cover still in it's original box and a pair of nova-5's got them all at a garage sale.

I collected this little gem :-P two weeks ago at the usual place...

I didn't collect the LAB-300 tt that was with it... it looked just a little too homely even for me (and my standards are pretty low when the price is right)

Next update:
  • Optimus-12 2way speakers
  • STA-82 receiver: the blue glow
  • STA-90 receiver: the orange glow
  • STC-11 cassette deck
  • 5 band equalizer 31-1987

I have a LOT of RS stuff.

I own::

Receivers::

An STA-2000.
Sta-2300--works, other than the power switch
STA-2250
THREE-- STA-2200's...IMHO..the BEST receiver (amp wise, at least..) RS EVER made!! One of them is a "daily driver' for my bedroom, driving 4 Mach-II's and it rarely gets turned off. That MOSFET amp makes everything "come alive". Recently, "Crimson tide" was on, and there is a VERY low track in it, for the "submarine machine noise". My mom came in the room, and heard this, it was NOT on loud at all...but still came through very well. My mom came in and heard it...and said" it sounds like a car is running outside". I told her "it is the movie, and my stereo can make it sound so real". she still did not believe me, and looked outside, and of course no car was running.

An--STA-430. I had one of these back in 1984, as my first receiver. Had to get another one.

STA-450
STA-460
STA-65C
STA-790
STA-2600
STA-2290--2 of them.

Amps::

SA-1000
SA-2000
MPA-250.

Cassette receivers::
SCR-2500
SCR-3000
SCR-3010
SCR-3100--I think..it is the BIG one, with the big amp, sold in 1984-1985.

Cassette deck::
SCT-33

And a couple of their DD turntables.
