Hi All!

I found a Realistic LAB500 on CL for $30; looks nice but is it worth it???

I'm tempted but there isn't too much info on the internet about it.

Chef

I just sold a working rather dirty Lab 500 for $40 for the price a decent TT in my books

I just picked it up!!!!

It's big, heavy and pretty!!!!

I'm going to slap an AT-92ecd on it with a Universal Shell until I can afford something a little better.

Do you think they're a good match?

What economy cartridge do you think I should pair with it?

there's one for sale "local" to me on the auction site. I thought his B.I.N. price was high. I offered $100 and I come pick it up, which he agreed to but I haven't sealed the deal because I wasn't sure if it was worth it. Plus thats at the absolute top of what I'm willing to pay for (my first) turntable.

If you do a search you'll find it out there.

So I'm asking if its worth that much being in what appears to be excellent condition, but w/no stylus.

I want one of these. Or the one that sort of looks like it the LAB-8500. I think 100 dollars might be pushing it. Id talk him down in price if i were you. Now if it was a top condition LAB-400, then it would be worth it.

It might be in pretty much top condition, its at least in excellent condition. It's hard to tell from the pictures I see. But I too think $100 is pushing it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130399297848&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Now if the cart is awesome then id say go for it. Like you said, the turntable is in nice shape. I bought a broken down Pioneer PL-55X the one time just for the cart which was an AT15Sa. I still need to get a stylus for that cart by the way.

Great! Cartridge BTW.

Thanks,

how would I know by just looking if the cartridge is in awesome shape?
No, what he meant was if it's a top notch cartridge--and if you're not sure, you'd have to ask here on AK. As to the condition, most cartridge bodies are fine--it's the stylus that you need to be concerned about. And there's no way to know that by just looking. If you're buying the tt from someone you don't know, just assume you'll have to replace the stylus.

Oh, I already know it doesn't include a stylus.

I've been researching and the stock integrated headshell/cart (R9000E) is essentially a Shure M95ED and is supposed to be at least a decent cart if not quite good.

My LAB-500 Came with R1000 EDT wich is a Shure M75ED... if I remember correctly.
Replaced it with a Grado Black1.

It's the stock R9000E LWS integrated cartridge (essentially a Shure M95ED) that accepts an N95ED or N95HE.
