Realistic Speakers.

These look interesting. Can anyone identify them and perhaps offer recommendations/thoughts?

They appear to be from the Nova series, my guess would be 5s or 7s. Either should be a very nice speaker, and $20 is a good price.

I have a pair of refoamed Nova-5s in my bedroom system, the sound is very clear and pleasant.

I was going to say Nova 7's or 8's contrarian that I am I find them to be harsh and unrefined i'd rather listen to music in my mind than on those speakers

I would say neither 7B or 8 or 8B. They would normally have 7 diamonds in the lattice across.

Not sure which these are. I would have thought Sansui or Pioneer at first.

But $20 worth a look.

I'd say Nova 6. They're a nice little speaker, somewhat comparable to the original Baby Advent, IMO. Good for a bedroom or kid's system. The grills have little screws in the corners.

I say Nova 8. They will need to be refoamed.

The Nova 7 and 8 series would normally have 7 diamonds across (at least the ones I have seen):

I think they sound clean and detailed. Unlike some of the other Radio Shack speakers that can sound overly warm. I can also see where they can sound bright/harsh depending on your system.

Many of the vintage Realistic woofers were either cloth, rubber, or coated surrounds. Unless they were abused or stored under harsh conditions I have not had to refoam. [Minimus 7, MC-2001, Solo 3A, Optimus 5B, Nova 7B, 8B (gave away)]

I guess they are Nova 10s

8" woofer with a passive radiator... 2" tweeter 50 watts.

I think I'm gonna go take a look, just for curiosities sake.

they are not 7b's. they could be 10's. i have both. they are worth about 20 bucks, maybe for sentimental value. there are much better sounding speakers out there.

the 8b's have radioshack badges and say tandy corp. on the back with no mention of realistic iirc. good for classical and jazz but they fall short with rock for me but suprisingly decent for what they go for, can't go wrong for $20.

The Nova-10 looks considerably more interesting than most of the "Nova" speakers, which, to this observer, were primarily decorator speakers, i.e., all hat and no cowboy.

Well, I ended grabbing these Nova-10s. The gal I got them from really looked like she could use the $20 more than the speakers, bit of Audiokarma in my own right, perhaps. I'm sure I get $20 worth of entertainment out of them. Perhaps I'll stack my Model Fives on top of them.

The foam on all the drivers and radiators look immaculate! The walnut veneer is pretty rough, but nothing a little Howards won't take care of. I haven't tested them out yet, hopefully this weekend.

A lot of the RS speakers from that era used a treated foam that does not deteriorate, hope all the drivers work!

That catalog was cool as hell ! I could have bought my Mach 1's and my !Sta-2080 with a turntable for a little over 1000 dollars ! In fact I paid close to 500 bucks back in 76 or 77 just for the Mach's! I just bought a near mint STA-2080 the other day for 70 bucks.
I bought my Sansui 9090db on sale for around 600 bucks new back then too.
The 3.25 an hour job back then made it tough to manage buying this stuff but alot of us managed it ok. We didn't own much else but our cars and our stereo's. Wasn't much else mattered but women and herb and good music.
