I had one of those receivers around 1980. Was really well made with the exception of the crappy spring-loaded speaker connectors. Thankfully, most decent equipment nowadays has binding posts.

Were those made by Technics or was that one of the Fisher units?

It kinda looks like both put together in a mixer and squezzed out the other end!!........

Still a nice looking unit though.....

Can't complain... I can get the whole system with The Lab 440 TT,and the Mach ones Plus the original rack that RS sold back then, for a hunnered buckz!! All in mint condition Including some vinyl......(not shure what ones though)

Eric...I don't believe this one has the Psudo Quad ....But thats OK...I'd have no use for it anyway.....:)

Radio Shack was buying alot from Pioneer and TEAC during this period. I always felt mine had been sourced from Pioneer. They also had a few units built by Akai and Hitachi as well.

Cool ....that is a very versitile receiver..for anyone who wants all the features for a small price....it shouldnt go too high!!

There like the Maverics of the receiver world....kind of a sleeper.....

From what I've read recently, either here or at AA, Radio Shack designed their units and bid manufacture to independent Japanese factories. Pulling parts from the shelf, so to speak, it is not surprising they resembled other Japanese brands, often two or three in one model, eh?

Realistic STA-2080 Nudies?

I am looking at purchasing one of these vintage receivers and am looking for nudies of it. I found a thread with some from last year but a message came up saying they were no longer in the database. Can anyone post some please? Reel to Reel I believe was the person who posted them before.

R2R, sounds like a good deal, you could unload the Mach I's and get your money back. The Mach's are real popular, should be able to turn them over fast, unless you fall in love with them, which is easy to do to! I have Mach II's, and I think they sound great, a little AC/DC or Kiss makes 'em sing!

To reel to reel---I understand you have a sta-2080 or just maybe service info. I have an sta-2080 that has a problem on the left channel. It has a steady low noise (like a white noise)at about 3 or 4 watts, even when the volume control is shut off and the balance has no control either. The audio still sounds ok and controllable. What I would like to know is if I could switch the inputs and outputs to the preamps and finals to see if it is on these boards or if maybe on the board the output from the finals feed into----the one that has the speaker relays on. Anyway I sure would like to isolate this problem. witch is hard to do with no info. I bought this receiver new in 1982 and this is the first problem I have had. it.s been a good tuner..I sure hope there is some info or ideas out there.---from Marconie (gary.brownell@ns.sympatico.ca) to the mad dog junkie.
