Realistic STA-240

Saw one at the thrift store for $40. Is it worth it? Is the phono stage any good? I know it is a rare model. Thought it might be good to use with some bookshelf speakers. Maybe some Minimus 7 which are on craigslist for $15.

I would have snapped it up but then I am a sucker for Realistics. It is toward the end of the golden age of RS but would be well worth the $$ if in working condition IMO. BTW, "should I pick up..." threads often become "I wish I had picked up..." threads. Just sayin'.

Well you replied to late. I picked it up about 10 min ago. Its a beauty. Tomorrow I am picking up a pair of Minimus 7's for $15. :D

Hopefully nobody will whine about me digging up an old thread here but I am picking up a pair of Klipsch Forte II's and would this be a nice amp for them? Should I probably sell this and get a small tube amp for them? (I could probably get $300-400 off of the Realistic)

I don't think you would get that much for the Realistic. They tend to go for cheap. Instead why not try the 240 with the Klipsch Forte II's?

Regardless of the price and value. It's a well made unit and Radio Shack has released many one-year production units that were well made and sound pretty good, like the SA-2001.

I own a STA 52B, STA 2000 and STA 2100. The 240 I would like to get, but I would not pay $300 for one. The only Realistics I see that going for that price are the 2100 and the 2300.

Agreed. Only questioning the 300-400$ expectation.
I am a fan and owner of quite some of their aparati:

Ah, dammit, then let me turn this into a 'shoulda got it' thread - there was one of these receivers sitting on the local thrift shelf for a week or two a while back and I didn't pull the trigger. Sigh. Had no idea it was so well regarded.
