Had my Phase Linear Pro 700 apart to clean the input attenuators. These are actual stepped units, not just a carbon pot with clicks. Ladder type, so probably not quieter than a pot but likely more robust.

One of the best 60wpc integrated amps I've heard. Clear, neutral, and detailed and very tight and fast bass/low-end. But, the preamp and power amp cannot be used separately, which is what I wanted, so I got rid of it and kept my Cambridge Audio 640a. In retrospect, I should have kept the RA870 for its sound quality, but the CA has more features (like a remote and tone controls).

I just got a mint condition Rotel RC-870BK preamp and very similar to the RA-870, love it, maybe the best preamp in my collection
