Receiver Recommendation

Looking for a Marantz receiver that can handle input/outputs for a reel to reel deck, CD Player and cassette deck. Could someone recommend a model(s)? I'm looking at a 4300 but it's not cheap.

Almost all Marantz 22XX receivers will allow you to have inputs for reel to reel, cd, and cassette. Note - the XX = the watts per channel. So 2225 = 25 watts per channel. If your system is set up in a small to medium size room, you don't need a very powerful receiver. The 2220 - 2245 models would be fine for that. If it is a very large space, go up in wattage. As a general rule of thumb, the higher up in wattage you go, the more you are likely going to have to pay.

I think I liked the sound of my 2225 the best, and I've had a 2235B, 2238B, 2252B, and 2250. People rave about the 2245, 2270, and 2275 and claim they are the best of the 22XX series.

Second on what sub08 said. Most Marantz have 2 tape player jack sets on the back plus dubbing inputs on front, and a set of aux jacks too on back that should cover it As far as cost if you can wait a while you'll be surprised what pops up on craigslist for reasonable prices, all three of mine cost less than 160 each, all work fine, just needed deoxit to the pots and a new set of fuse lamps.

You can also post wanted ads or WTB ads on craigslist. I've scored or got good deals through this method. You'd be surprised how people will just contact you to get rid of this stuff. You being in California should help, because there is a TON of marantz receivers circulating in that state.

I went on a spending spree the past two weeks and bought 3 receivers - 2250B and two 2238B's. I only spent $300 on all of them. They all needed an easy deoxit cleaning and sound great now. I will soon sell these and expect to get no less than $600 for all of them.

Even units like the 2265, 2270 don't appear to have enough input/outputs for the three devices mentioned as there's just two tape inputs/outs plus an Aux connection. The three units I wanted to connect all have four terminals each(2-Input/2-Output). I can't connect my CD player/recorder into the Aux terminals as it requires four RCA type connections instead of two.

Why do they have 4 cables each for inputs? That doesn't make sense. Maybe you can buy a converter to switch then to two each?

Can you post the model # of your CD player. I am really curious now.

Four cables total-two for input(L-R) and two for output(L-R). The CD deck is model DA-5700. There are two Optical connections on the back but no vintage receiver will accept digital connections.

Why would you need an input for a CD deck?

If you get a converter, you should be good. Most Marantz receivers have 2 tape inputs and outputs.

For audio recording. You connect RCA cables from the TDK CD players line in jacks and the line out jacks on a source device like a receiver or tape deck.

It's a cd recorder, so it requires inputs and outputs just like the tape decks.

A tape selector box will solve your problem. I use one to connect 3 tape decks, a CD player, an internet tuner and a turntable to my 2285.

I was about to mention this about the box. Good work! I guess I didn't realize people use cd recorders this way.

I mean I didn't know they existed. Maybe I am missing something? Is there value in recording the output of a receiver on a CD instead of just using a CD burner? Does the warm sound of the marantz transfer to CD well?
