Receivers versus Separates

If a person can buy a SX-1980 for $300 or so, I have to believe that is a great buy and I'd likely be inline to buy. I just don't get $2K plus..

Me neither. I just think it's people with lots of money and little knowledge.

I was thinking...overall separates are by far the better choice.

Ever see a receiver with a tapedeck and equalizer built in?

:D

Most would prefer the separates, for pure sound and capabilities; while Most also desire the Big G, primarily for looks first, capabilities and collectibility second.

yep, i'd be there (more likely for a G-9000).

$2k? The average price of my separates has been $300 (excluding the AU-20000). They are worth it to me, for what I do, and want to do more of: bi-amplifying.

Try it, you'll like it!

TOTL separates beat TOTL receivers of the same brand and vintage. Mostly the difference is seen if you spin Vinyl.

But the short list very tip top TOTL receivers were and are still a better bang for the buck for this FM listener with a skimpy collection...(short stacks of wax* live here so far) ...:sigh:

There are some quirks though. The amps in my Fisher RS-1080 and Concept 16.5. Tuner in the KR-9050 and R-117. Somebody put real mojo in them. :D

*wax was the medium your great-greats used in the cylinders popular before 78rpm disks overtook it as the mainstream medium of mass-market distribution.
