Recommendations for Nak Dragon service?

Hello, wanted to see if anyone could recommend who to contact to help get a Dragon working again.

Not sure if it’s a small or big issue. Last couple weeks, it doesn’t play tapes in either direction. Powers up, able to FFW or rewind just fine. Just doesn’t seem to play tapes.

Appreciate any help!

And if anyone has any leads on a backup cassette deck, that’d be great too!

Yes Willy is indeed the main go to guy for many. Im local to Willy and decided to wait 8mos before he could work on my deck .

I wouldn’t hesitate sending it to fellow AK member Perryinva. He’s got awesome reviews .

the other choice is Cliff out of Texas . He’s an unbelievable tech and His wait time might not be as bad . I’ve seen the work he’s done on a dragon.

Good luck !

There's also Nakmandan up near Chicago.

Dan did mine about a year ago. Fantastic work and good communication on the progress. I know he gets a ton of work so he's backed up but show me a tech who's not and I'll show you a tech to probably stay away from. I hand delivered it and picked it up to limit the possibility of shipping damage. He did a great job. Since your in Chicago that's a consideration. PM me if you want his contact information.

Another +1 for Nakmandan, but you're going to wait (as with any good tech as MRL pointed out). He is a Nak specialist and super nice guy as well.

Well, I was going to recommend "Nakdoc", Tom Brucker at Hi Tech Service in Nashville, Tn, but from his Facebook page, it looks like he is in the process of gradually shutting down by summer.

I can speak for Willy's services - he does great work! I was on a year long waiting list though - just as an FYI.

Perry recently went through my Dragon for a complete service and update. First time it's been out of my home since I bought it new in January of 1984. Perry and I had discussed my dropping it off to him in-person for seems like several years and finally arranged such a meeting. He did not take long once he had the deck to determine a course of action and, once I agreed to some updates and the complete service, he had it ready for me in a short time. Perry supplied me with test data to back up his claim that this low-hour deck was, in fact, better than new! Perry was a pleasure to work with and he took time to explain to a dummy just what he was proposing—and he even returned all the old parts. It could not have been a better experience and now the Dragon and I are ready for another 38-years together! Or, if I should find I don't really use it enough to warrant keeping it, it's in perfect condition for its next owner.

I'm writing this today to give Perry credit for his excellent work and because, while searching for some missing keys to a 50-year-old BMW that hasn't been driven in 30-years, I came across my original receipts for the Dragon, the Nak de-mag accessory, my Nak Tri-Mic system, and my Nak 550 portable. All in the same drawer as the missing keys, as fate would have it! It was a good day.

Thank you for the kind words. And PLEASE let me know first if you decide to sell it!!! There are precious few in that kind of condition with that performance.
