Record Store Day 2018

The full list is up at the RSD website: http://www.recordstoreday.com/

According to my local shop, it is being organized differently this year. Instead of getting a series of lists of RSD releases to order from before nowt, they waited until this public announcement to also make the list available to the shops for ordering. This means that if you see something you'd buy that you think your local shop might not order in for RSD, let them know. I'm pretty shure that my local shop will try to get the Merzbow et. al. record in, but I'm gonna make certain that they know I'll buy it if they do get one in.

Also on my really-want-short-list:
  • Belly - "Feel" 10" EP preview of coming album
  • Brian Eno with Kevin Shields - 12" single
  • Sufjan Stevens - "Mystery of Love" 10" EP (his songs from the Call Me By Your Name soundtrack)
  • Swans - Die Tür ist zu double LP, reissue of a 1996 Germany-only album

;) ha, yeah... I have to say, the list does not seem very "contemporary," for lack of a better term.

I had no problem finding new recordings by active artists in amongst all the reissues of old recordings. Only one reissue out of the top five things I'd be looking for listed above. New material may be in the minority of RSD releases, but they're in there. My biggest gripe with RSD has been the preponderance of rereleases of the same old same old over new material, more so than issues like lines and crowds which will vary from record store to record store.

Ha
I have and had all I need from most of that group. I don't need 10 variations of one song. I guess they are targeting people who buy the most vinyl... old guys.

:D

Ha! Well, I'm an old guy, and I sure don't buy from "that group" anymore. I have been feeling a real "meh" about RSD for the past few years.

THE MULE !!! I'll try for that and the Allman Brothers live at The Atlanta Festival. The last go-round, I hit the first indy store later in the day and got nothing, went to a smaller store and struck gold. This time around, I'll wait until the afternoon and hit 3-4 indy stores to see whats left. I just can't deal with the pushing and shoving but I think.a little patience and I will prevail.

There are a few interesting items this year especially "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" mono. I am not sure If I will wait in line for this though. I feel that most of what I want can be found down the road once the hype is over.

I usually get excited for Record Store Day, but there aren't many offerings that interest me this year. The only one I'd stand in line for is Uncle Tupelo - No Depression demos. The Steve Earle live could be a fun listen as could be the B-52s, but most years there are a couple dozen things I'd like to have. This year, not so much

This is what Id like to try to get !!

I went early (though not quite in line outside early) a couple years ago to pick up the Pulp reissues. Wandered through the maze at Easy Street in W Seattle and took my haul home. When the fam got up we went south to Olympia and I made them pop into the record store sometime around noon. Only a couple people looking at records by then; you'd have no idea it was RSD. Found a Pulp album I'd missed earlier too.

So that's my new plan, sleep in late and see what's left.
