I understand your concerns. I was just talking to my wife yesterday about the fact that I have owned the 9 Kappas for 16 years or so, and have yet to hear what they are really capable of, i.e. the swtch set to "extended". Basically I purchased speakers that I simply cannot afford the amplifier power to drive properly.From going thru all of these posts, I've come to the conclusion that I won't be trying to find a pair of Kappa 9's.I'll stick with my SDA's.
I fear that adding another Adcom GFA-5802 ($750-1000) to the mix for bi-amping won't cut it. Older Krell power is a possibility, but I think the KSA-100S or KSA-150 would be under-powered for the low efficiency 9 Kappas. Something like a KSA-200S would work but is up in the $2500+ area. When I get up into that range I find myself wondering if I would be better off selling the 9 Kappas and pairing the Adcom GFA-5802 with a used pair of B&W 703S ($3000+), a speaker I have recently fallen in love with.
The 9 Kappas have so many enduring qualities, but I am beginning to wonder if it is wise to keep them. BTW, if I decide to sell the 9 Kappas, potential buyers please disregard this post!!!

Heres a quick review of the A-760, Basically a year newer TFM-55. He made a few changes in the power supply, And THX certified. Not a big deal, But it's been rock solid now for awhile. I just had it serviced/cleaned at Carver Pro. No problems, Some resoldering was done. BTW, This amp bench tested at over 400wpc. If you see one in your budget, Buy it!.
