Just wanted to share my excitement with all the other Infinity fans. I'm making a multi-hour trek to pick up a pair of original owner, still in boxes oak Renaissance 90's :banana:

Should have them set up in all their glory this evening...

Reminds me of my adventure back in Jan' 08, when i had to drive to the same guy in NJ 4 times, first to inspect and then to pay for a pair of Sigmas and Ren. 80s. Ahhh, the good old days!

Just got home. These things are beautiful. Pics and impressions to come later, my rear and back are sore from 4+ hours of driving.
 
 
Looks like you picked up a very nice pair. I have a pair of black 90's in one of my systems driven by a Sumo amp. They do like that power. :thmbsp:

They are a 100% upgrade from the 80s, and that is no small feat considering how wonderful those "little guys" sounded.

Oh wow, that amp....it matches those oak sides and black screens perfectly! Where ever did you get it!?

In my case, the 80's to me sounded better. Bill Watkins agreed with my findings...and I think Arnie also echoed those sentiments. Bill said he was never quite happy with the bass to mid-bass integration...that's where I felt the 90 was lacking as well. But of course, ymmv....
 
After spending time with both, I can understand why some favor the 80's, and some favor the 90's. Although I love both, I can't afford (and don't have the room ) to keep both :(

Sounds like you might favor the '80s? I'm trying to read between the lines, but this wasn't a "Whoa! I'm glad I made that trek!" by any means. I'm very curious...I'm kicking myself for not buying a pair of '80s that were available here over the winter...

Another thing about the 80's that I liked better, I was always astonished at how well they played for their size. Myself and others who listened would say, "no way is all of that coming out of those little speakers". The 90's are BIG and you expect big things from them, the 80's catch you off gaurd by giving you 95% of the 90's sound. Also, for me the 80's just totally dissapeared where as the 90's did not nearly as well. Once again this was my take in my room...

I have exactly the same sentiments when I compare them to my 8Kappa (which stand over 8" taller than the Ren 80's). The Ren 80's surprise me by sounding as big as the 8Kappa.
