Where do you find is a good online resource for replacement parts? I have a ‘77 JVC receiver that is missing the correct knob for the on/off switch. I have checked eBay and googled the part by part number, etc. What is my best option for getting replacements for model specific parts?

Mouser and Digikey. The sites can be difficult to navigate at first until you get used to them due to so many filters like, brand, type, value, voltage, etc. But you can just ignore some that aren't relevant. You can just do a quick search at the sites for the parts your looking for also.
 
"Model Specific" parts are very difficult to come by as they're not made any longer, and whatever parts were in stock have been sold. You might be able to find similar knobs, but exact matches usually require buying a "Parts Radio".
 
I somehow missed the knob bit. Was thinking switch. Try ebay. Enter "JVC parts" in the search bar. And scroll through the parts listing. Just entering JVC knobs may cause you to miss something. You may even find one that isn't identical, but matches well. I usually find knobs and whatnot like that.

Becoming a subscriber and posting something like "Wanted - Knob for JVC-VR5501" would be the fastest way to find the part. I purchased a ton of knobs from an estate of a local ebayer who dealt in stereo equipment. Its like finding a door handle for a 77 Impala, your going to have to find someone with a junkyard and AKers have the junk.

This for sure. I needed a knob for a Heathkit tuner and was sure that it would be impossible to find. I posted a WTB and had someone message me about two hours later. Bartertown is where you'll find what you need and probably a bunch of stuff that you didn't know you needed as well.
