had them re-foamed about 10 years ago but never sounded the same. Sent my amp & preamp back to McIintosh labs for a 40 year check-up & cleaning and want the old magic this system put out back.

Think I spent about 1000 for the epicures 40 years ago. was plenty satisfied with how this system sounded. would like to stay around 2500 for a pair if doable. loved how the epicures sounded.

Was thinking of going that route but a busted pipe on Christmas eve changed all that. need to find a replacement. McIntosh labs has had my amp and preamp for a year now so hoping will be getting them back soon. this system was in storage for at least 10 years and got the bug to get her up and running again. Just need some help on who produces a good speaker these days.

You'll have to figure out how prospective speakers will fit into and react with your room. If you don't have enough room behind your speakers, then don't consider Magnepans or Martin Logans that require two to three feet of rear wall clearance. If you have a large room, small two way bookshelf speakers might not work either. Do you like your music loud or at medium or low volumes? You've only got around 50 watts/channel, so a speaker's efficiency will also come into play. I could go on and on, but I hope you get the picture. The only one that can decide is you.

Epicures are great speakers. Look for JBL L5s. You'll never go back.

Thanks, will do$2500 is a great budget for speakers. If one browsed through any of the excellent threads in the AK Audio and System Building forums, there is a wealth of information on speakers and finding the right match for your setup.
