Report Problems with Ads Here!

Unwanted/unsponsored ads here for about 3 days- first time on this 5+ yr old windows 10 machine. A Best Buy ad then a thing called Sellwild at the bottom of this page..machine froze first try posting this

There is a thread by the AK contracted Ad company. The OP explains what is going on :dunno:

And that is a work in progress.

I thought I was the only one who was getting those annoying pop up adds in the bottom of my screen. Is this the new normal?

AK is not the worst by any means but the blocker is on all the time.
I can use just so many tactical super food diet camo refinance sex enhancing ammo bags......

I'm not positive what is meant by creeper pop up ads, but it took me a couple of tries to enter this thread. Just when I go to click on the title, the entire screen lurches down so that I enter a different thread instead. It's happening all the damn time and it's quite annoying.

Charge me twice as much for my subscription. Hell, charge three times as much. Just make all this **** that has started recently stop.

Yeah the SellWild crap at the bottom is a little slutty no?

I’m happy to support this community and the people who started this website. It is theirs after all but let’s keep it classy.

I kind of think of my subscription like I do the “No Solicitors” sign in front of my house.
Both should spare me the annoyance of inane solicitations.

Flyers on the telephone pole by my house decrease the value of the homes in my neighborhood and these ads do the same to this web site.

I mean really?

Thanks

Eric

Paging @Advally

I have advocated for, and defended, the ads here, and even a bit of increased ad presence. But I will no longer do so, if this is what I am advocating for. Good freaking grief.

Ads attached to various areas of the page are one thing, as long as they scroll with the page, and do not obscure active areas of the page. But putting an ad at the bottom of every screen, that stays on the bottom of the screen (not page, screen), with the page scrolling beneath it, and obscured by it, that forces me to click some area on that ad in order to see the page beneath it is completely unacceptable. I don't click ANY area of an ad, as I do not trust an x to be an x. I have had ads with active code execute when I click within them. I depend too much on my PC to have malware installed, and we have had malware come in via ads at least 3 good times in the past. I won't be clicking x's or anywhere else in ads.

I may visit 50 to 100 pages, or more, per day on this site, trying to do my job. Having each page partially obscured by a forward, obtrusive ad is completely unacceptable. And I work here. Put ads on fixed areas of the pages if you wish, heck, fill half the dang page with ads if you want, as long as the ads scroll with the page. But, obscuring the page with ads, which I have to click in some way to be able see what I am actually here to look at, or do, is intolerable, and again, I work here, at least for now.

This stuff does not make me want to click ads, or patronize the vendors represented in ads. Instead, it makes me not want to come to this forum, and, again, I work here.

I watch TV or movies, or other things when I am on AK, That obtrusive bottom of the screen ad obscures a full third of my AK page, the way I use my browser. I refuse to be limited to full-screen browsing. Again, NO, I will NOT be clicking anywhere in ads, not x's or anywhere else. Look at this mess:

Sample #2: (side bar and bottom of page)

Posting a second sample, with a different twist in where the ads appear this time, as well as voicing my $0.02 worth of annoyance and frustration. (Mods, please feel free to edit or even delete my post). It's come to the point where I don't care anymore.

This is not fun (and I'm a paying subscriber, to boot)!

Not only do I have these extremely annoying ads to navigate through (it's like running the hurdles), but my typing has slowed as well. Sometimes, it takes a couple of seconds for what I typed to appear on screen.

If this will be the norm going forward, I will re-evaluate where I spend my dollars and which sites I will support. From the looks of things as they stand now, AK isn't in the mix.

It reminds me of what happened over at Photobucketofshit ..... their free site became so riddled with ads and pop-ups, it forced people to either abandon it or pay. And we all know how well that turned out.

I am still curious as to why I can delete the pop up once and it does not come back (Win10) ? Same on my phone, delete once and it’s gone. Site acts the same, typing, paging, scrolling, etc. Maybe it will help out @Advally to know whatever they are doing has zero effect on some :dunno:

I also do not run any ad blockers nor “shut” down anything internet wise on my laptop or phone. I run them how they come out of the box. Not sure if that will help with any “troubleshooting”

In order to delete the ad, you have to click in it somewhere. There is no way I am going to tolerate being forced to click ANYWHERE within the boundaries of an ad. I'm just not going to risk it. I need this PC free from funny code, and funny tracking. My livelihood depends on it.

There is an X in the upper right corner, you click it and it closes and does not come back until the next time you log in :dunno:.

As you said you work here so you understand the site needs adverting for revenue.

Hear me please: I will NOT be clicking ANYWHERE in an ad, not corners, not x's, not nowhere. I have had ads with active code execute, and drop a payload, when clicking, right here on AK. I depend too much on this PC to risk clicking links and ads. I am not alone in this.

Ok, you do you. But it seems to be the same small hand full complaining about it all the time.

Have a good weekend

Edit: just trying to give @Advally some more symptom recognition... it is the key to any TS.

I suspect that advertising, at least internet advertising, has evolved well past attempting to get folks to buy the things advertised to some less obvious purpose.

Maybe whoever pays for the ads is being scammed with the aid of spurious "research" or inflated numbers of clicks. I know that the erratic loading of AK pages lately has caused me to click on things other than the intended target. At least some of the time the accidental clicks lead me to some advertiser's site where I won't buy anything. Ever.

Maybe it's some sort of reverse psychology deal where the ads are purposely made to be so annoying that they know they'll cause us to purposely avoid spending money with that company. The catch is that the ads are paid for by that company's competitors.

Maybe AK has a competitor who wants to bring an end to AK. All those trolls failed to have much effect, so they've sent in the big guns, site killing moving ads.

Maybe all internet advertising is paid for by an evil billionaire who gets his jollies by spreading misery, one minor irritation at a time.

I don't think so, not to this degree. I could be wrong.

I've been a member here since 2009. All the ads I've seen (prior to this advertising orgy we're presently being subjected to) were either at the top or bottom, relatively small and discreet and acceptable, at least to me. I can understand the financial part of it and I am ok with it.

But the present bombardment has taken it to a totally different level.

Like I said, my subscription is up in a couple of months and all options are on the table. :D

Cheers. :)
