Report Problems with Ads Here!

I'm out!

* raising hand *

Ads have suddenly got more intrusive for me too. On first login today there were two popups blocking different parts of the page content, three banners, and a particularly gaudy 10-pane billboard, something like the one @Te-Te showed.

I know I'm not a huge participant here, but I have been a subscriber for the last couple of years, and am feeling a bit miffed at how in-my-face this is right now.

Edit after reading post #1: Firefox 76.0.1, Fedora Linux 32. Didn't think to take a screenshot but can next time.

I can report that I now have these new annoying pop-ups on the bottom of my screen while I'm scrolling down the page. Samsung GALAXY S10 & Chrome. Built-in Samsung browser same issue.

So does everyone see this damn ad at the bottom of their screen when scrolling on AK? Is this a new thing here? I checked other sites and none of the others are showing it...so apparently here. Beautiful.

this just appeared today,
WIndows 10 on Lenova Yoga, Google Chrome. In Bartertown, it overlays the beginning of each thread

Ok, this is testing something new, and it is supposed to be there. I agree that this placement doesn't work great though, it is an oversight because there is usually some padding on large monitors but the mistake the team made here is that AK is full-width. We'll address.

I'm getting the "Sellwild" Ad again, across the entire bottom of the page today.

This one was a choice to test by the owners of the site now. It is located at the bottom of the page, where the idea is that you don't need to scroll down to it. Is there any specific problem with having it there that you see?

Totally open to feedback here. Times have been tough with the collapse in the Economy, so we're looking for solutions to find a middle ground between making sure AudioKarma has the revenue they need to operate and User experience. We're all about finding a balance, so lets chat about it!

Its getting over the top with all the ads - they are out of control. I just came on tonight (MacPro Desktop computer, not cellphone!) and - I can deal with the banner ads at the top of the screen - but I found 1/6 of the page eatten by a left side banner and the bottom of the visible screen covered by a floating bottom banner. from the same advertiser. I don't even know who Merkle IS??

So, I clicked them to clear the clutter and - then saw the bottom 1/3 consumed by SellWild and - there was ANOTHER banner ad below that.

I generally like this place - but if I have to run Ad blockers to manage all this junk ... Its too much trouble and getting so its not much fun here anymore ...

Yep. Tried to get rid of it for awhile and always there. May have to find an ad blocker like I use on desktop.

I find the "Sellwild" Ad the most atrocious, if it has to stay, can it be compressed to a much smaller footprint?
It's just too big.

There is already so much advertising on here, it's out of control. It is just going to push people away. Adding more won't help. I paid for 4 years subscription in advance, nearly 3 years ago. There was a fraction of this advertising when I joined in September 2016.

I've asked this question at least a couple of times before and still have never received any response, I'll ask again: @Grumpy can you not offer people the option to pay an additional nominal annual fee for 100% ad free experience? I would be willing to pay an additional $2 a month to eliminate this frustration. I'm guessing this is more than you'd make from me on ads. I only view ~3 to 4 ads a month.

AK Subscriber Premium: %100 ad free. Now that's an idea!

In some ways I'm relieved as I thought it was just me. Good to know that it is not a virus. I've just stopped scrolling down too far to avoid the Sellwild ads.

I am not seeing any of this on my iPhone or old Dell Win10 work laptop and I do not close anything down because ads do not bother me. Sites need to make money.

I get one banner ad on top and have to scroll to the bottom of the page for the rest.

I always pointed to Audiokarma as a sign of "how do do ads right" -- most of the older banners were both visually civil and legitimately focused messages for products highly appropriate to the audience. I figured they probably had pretty good clickthrough rates, and even more importantly, a high click-to-conversion ratio, because of that connection.

This new stuff, my first thought was, "oh, great, something compromised my Firefox install". It's reassuring that it's not just me. There's a large banner for the local grocery store position:fixed tacked to the bottom of the screen and then the colossal Sellwild construct towards the bottom of each page.

I suspect they're going for quantity-over-quality ads there. This is fundamentally a hobby forum about a hobby full of high-margin buyables. The right ads are pretty damn obvious.

The big banner from the grocery store is the ultimate in lazy targeting. All you can figure out about me is my geo-located IP address and that I eat food?

The Sellwild ad unit is bad to the point of comical. Many of the blocks say "Get featured here (AK logo)" which I suspect is leveraging the trust that the AK brand has far beyond what you'd expect in a regular advertising relationship. The remaining blocks are (for me) filled with $70k luxury cars. You know damn well the only way anyone here clears that kind of budget headroom is if the target product has a Marantz or Pioneer badge on it.

Wonder what I am doing different? Like I said I do not lock anything down to get rid of ads. Just checked my Win10 also, nothing annoying or “in the way” I have to actively Scroll to the ads. :dunno:
