Return of the original Miniwatt SET ( APPJ )

I think it is gonna serve you well. it is half the price of the other adapters that are available for sale but it does the job very well in the sense that it fits snug and secure and sounds good, but it is also physically the smallest adapter that I have seen which helps with aesthetics so I think that it is a winner.

I ended up with a silver unit. I ordered a red one from china but they didnt ship 4 days after order so I angrily asked them to cancel and they did immediately but then I realized that it was due to Chinese new year :D anyway I found a seller in the US the same day.

Yes I like the fact that those adaptors are not as tall as some others.

Lots of vintage options that you might like better than the JJ's.
Totally agree PG! Here is a pair of RCA smokies, jamming with Bill Evans. All that I can say is...WoW. Pairs of 6V6 are quite reasonable on the bay, and here on BT.
RCA 6V6s are noted for their musicalilty. Many other brands were manufactured by RCA. Check for the silver printing, RCA codes and the RCA stop sign on the top of the tubes.

Still hard to believe, $99 for this amp off Massdrop, delivered to your front door!

Not to be overly dramatic or declare this tiny thing to be the beginning or end of anything, but if I knew I Could get so much music with so little I would have never spent that much dough on hifi all that's years.

I have been thinking the same thing Dadbeh. However, when I first started this journey of upgrading in the 1970's, the Chinese were waving little red books, riding bicycles, wearing Mao jackets and bowing to pictures of their great leader, Chairman Mao!

Ok, kiddies, back to our regularly scheduled program!

This is the 2nd consecutive week that my Fisher tube integrated hasn't been fired up. That's how much I'm enjoying the Mini/FX combination. I thought I was settled with tubes and the upgraded power supply for the FX, but now I'm looking at socket adapters and new tube possibilities for the MW. Fun times. I think a component switch box is in order, first.

PG - It's great to see how many years you've gotten out of your original. If Massdrop does another drop, this year, I'll be tempted to pick up a 2nd or maybe a FX TUBE-P1.

Now that I think about it I would not be surprised if the FX Tube-P1 is the same as the Miniwatt but with some additional features. Same tube compliment and SMPS.

I'm really glad to see several folks running the MW/APPJ with the FX tube preamp. That combination is just stupid good plus you get a nice bump in gain with the FX.

In this original review of the 4 tube MW from TNT a tube preamp was also recommended. Check out the price I paid 10 years ago and know you got a bargain at $99.

Count me in!!!

Thanks to PG and the rest of you audio anarchists, I could not resist this, especially give the ridiculous price. I told my wife I am getting it for her. She is not buying my story but when she sees how cute it is, perhaps I can set it up for her.

Just ordered mine from China. In black, to match the FX-1 and the Nobsound passive.

I agree, it is stupid good. As my FX-1 continues to burn in, it gets better and better. More details, more highs and lows, better imaging. Ben Webster never sounded so intimate in any of my systems. Detail without sounding analytical. The combination with my Dennis Had SEP amp conveys emotion better than anything else I have ever had.

This is challenging everything that I have believed in audio in my 30 plus years in this game. The price is right too!

Here's a real cutie. Are those 6AQ5 or 6V6?

I think the new style MW will run cooler than mine. The adaptors are a good idea as they elevate the tubes from the case which can get pretty hot.

The case on these amps acts as a heat sink. In summer I may revert back to using a small fan.

absolutely outstanding results. sound is wonderful.

Mine will supposedly arrive in a week along with the adapters. I have lots of 6V6's lying around and am looking forward to trying them.

Radio Shack had an online special for power plugs, buy one, get one free. I now have an extra for my next far eastern purchase.

Initially, I will run an old Sony portable into this little jewel as I am planning to set it up for SWMBO. The WAF factor must be through the roof due to its size and general cuteness. I am sorry I didn't get a red one, her favorite color.

Dabeh,

Are you driving these with your MW?

If so no wonder you're impressed.
no exactly that model. this one:

its the pair on the outer left and outer right. each channel has its own dedicated powered subwoofer so no shortage of bass kick and slam but i do have an issue with bass resonating and over energizing the room so i have bass traps coming and I spent all day working with DSP.

Great speakers! And even better.

Thinking back over the past 10 years I've sure got my money's worth out of the MW. Used it to power some unusual speakers. When I first retired I built and experimented with way more stuff than I could use so I've had to scale back. You can barely see the MW in this picture.

I had these preamp tubes in the MW at one time but today I can't identify or remember what they are?

A piece of thin tape is used to mark the volume control.
