RIP Moses Malone

Surprised no one had any anecdotes on his career. 12 time All-Star 3 time MVP, Hall of Fame first selection, world championship. He grew up in Virginia and our HS (West Springfield) played his team in the state final, lost 50-48. He dominated many a game.

As best as I can recall, pro basketball has never had much of a following here at AK.

College basketball is a different story.

Moses Malone might have been the best rebounder ever. 6-10 w/o hops, but he could carve out a space. I think he might have averaged over 30 points/game one year, not too shabby. RIP.

Very close, only (NBA) players atop MM are Chamberlain, Russel, Jabbar, and Hayes. Damn, but that Jabbar had a long career!

Yeah, I was exaggerating, but in my defence Russell and Chamberlain were retired by the time I saw any basketball. On that subject, those two men were something else. They would've had no trouble dominating the modern game the way they kicked some serious ass back in their day. I should also give a nod to Elgin Baylor, Elvin Hayes, and possibly Artis Gilmore as rebounders in the same league as Moses. Kareem was there too, but I think of his scoring first, probably a mistake, as often the go-to guy doesn't get the rebound, unless he gets his own shot. With KAJ's sky hook it's not so easy to follow his own shot, but heck, he gets a lot of respect in so many other areas, including calling a spade a spade w.r.t. Jack Donohue. Hope I didn't alienate too many fellow Canucks with that one.
