RIP Poly Styrene

RIP They don't make em like that any more, she sure was an inspiration to all those art-school girls I used to hang out with back in olden days

I don't usually comment in these type of threads and I'm a bit late but I didn't want to leave her passing unremarked. We lost Ari Up of the New Age Steppers and the Slits at the end of 2010 to cancer and now Poly Styrene too. Both too young. I wish I could hand every little 13 year old girl in the world a mixtape of these two women so their lives could be changed like mine was.

Here's some youtube links in case you're reading this and aren't familiar with the X-Ray Spex. Turn it up loud!

Oh Bondage, Up Yours!

The Day the World Turned DayGlo

I was 17 when Germ Free Adolescents came out,and had never heard of the band when I picked it up on a whim. From that first track,Art-I-Ficial,I was hooked.Smart, funny lyrics, that great unexpected sax,and Poly's incredible voice-a small freight train plowing through the punk scene,so wonderfully different from all the male voices I was hearing.
I know Im late to this thread, but I just found out today about the loss of Poly.
RIP,Ms Styrene.
