RIP Winslow Burhoe

One of the greats. After all the speakers I’ve listened to and collected over the years I have a deep fondness for my EPI 100s. They were the very first real speakers, bought as a much younger man and still hold their own. He was a true genius.

A true artist ...

And
Thank you Winslow .. for the body of work that survives you ..

Enjoy it now guys .. those drivers can only be patched together for so long .. :(

Sorry to hear this! I’m a big fan of his work and have owned many of his designs. His EPI 100 is a marvel, as are the variants on it. I guess I’ll fire up my 202s today in a tribute.

RIP and thanks for the beauty you graced us with!

I once emailed Winslow to ask him about Epicure Model 10 speakers...his response was they were developed by the marketing department to compete with high end speakers, but somehow they got lost in the mists of time...essentially an EPI 100 in a real wood cabinet with the same components...still have them, but they gave way to KLH 6's...need to dig them out and give them a listen again.

My M60s have been restored except they are awaiting refinish. Also a spare pair of masonite inverted domes for a DIY project. I need to get after it.

Looks like he was 90. RIP.

Love the Burhoe inverted dome tweeter.
The inverted dome and the Time Energy series dome can be crossed over pretty low, about 1850hz. Currently have the TE domes in a pair of ADC 303ax cabinets and they are way better than the original ADC cone tweeter. Made a simple 6 db crossover for the ADC's (10" woofer) and they are fantastic. An EPI/ADC hybrid. Sound is very much like the EPI 100's but with much deeper bass.

Sad day - RIP Winslow.

My first real speakers were EPI M50's. Later on I owned M100's and Burhoe White's. The Genesis brand were designed using Burhoe's principals as well.

I had communicated with him just last year. He was still designing. He was nice enough to respond to me through Linkedin.

I'm enjoying my M-50s right now, what an outstanding speaker. (I like them better than 100s.) The only speaker I've ever had that I like more is a Tannoy monitor gold, 10x more cabinet volume and 10x the price. And honestly the 50s hold their own, the tone is just perfect and I love the midrange. (And I'm putting aside extra masonite tweeters as a hedge for the future...)
RIP Winslow Burhoe, truly a great designer.
