The 12th studio album, released in 1987, took full advantage of the CD medium. The vinyl LP is limited to around 45 minutes. The 10 tracks of Hold Your Fire amount to over 50 minutes of music.

Recording took place in England, Monserrat and Canada. Time Stand Still appeared on a CD called "After The Hurricane", a fundraiser intended to help with rebuilding after a devastating hurricane hit Monserrat. It was supported by many artists who had recorded at Air Studios.

Additional vocals on Open Secrets and Time Stand Still were supplied by Aimee Mann who also appears in the promotional video for the latter track.

Production was by Peter Collins.

Just received this with Vapor Trails on vinyl... Prices have come down.. The redbook CD sounds ok, Looking forward to the vinyl copy.

Rush's 15th album and 3rd live release, A Show Of Hands completed the familiar pattern of 4 studio albums followed by a concert album.

A Show Of Hands is slightly shorter than the previous two live albums, having been prepared to maximize the available space of a CD, 74 minutes.

Must have album...IMO

Maybe not the last album. There have been some statements in the press by Alex and Geddy that another studio album is a posibillity. Touring is out however not family friendly and health issue for Neil and Alex also has some health issues. Keep fingers crossed. :music:
I would love it if they are able to continue on as a creative force and release more albums without the hassles of touring. My understanding is that Alex's arthritis is so advanced that even the rigors of the creating and recording process are ruled out. We can hold onto the hope that the situation improves enough to allow for more music to flow from Le Studio. :)

Presto

Track list:

1. Show Don't Tell
2. Chain Lightning
3. The Pass
4. Scars
5. War Paint
6. Presto
7. Superconductor
8. Anagram
9. Red Tide
10. Hand Over Fist
11. Available Light

Released in 1989, Presto was Rush's 13th studio album and the first on the Atlantic label. Their contract with Mercury had come to an end and the band decided not to renew.

Presto was produced by Rupert Hine and marks a departure from the heavy reliance on keyboards in favour of a return to the guitar/bass/percussion model of the band's early years. Keyboards were used to some extent but were relegated to a background rôle.

The 11 track album totalled around 52 minutes. Although 4 tracks were over 5 minutes, none were over 6.

10. You Bet Your Life

The 14th studio album, and the 2nd produced by Rupert Hine, Roll The Bones was released in 1991.

Following on what Presto had started, the album moved Rush further from keyboards, introduced an element of rap into the performance and featured the band's 3rd instrumental track, Where's My Thing?

Counterparts

1. Animate
2. Cold Fire
3. Cut To The Chase
4. Nobody's Hero
5. Between Sun And Moon
6. Alien Shore

11. Everyday Glory

Produced by Peter Collins, Counterparts was Rush's 15th studio album, released in 1993.

The trend toward a longer album continued with 11 tracks totalling more than 54 minutes. Leave That Thing Alone was Rush' 4th instrumental. The other tracks explore a variety of emotive subjects.

Counterparts hit #2 in the Billboard album chart, the highest position ever for a Rush album and #14 in the U.K.

Pye Dubois (of Max Webster) contributed to the lyrics, co-writing Between Sun And Moon with Neil Peart. He had previously been credited with co-writing Tom Sawyer (Moving Pictures).

Completely underrated album. I have the SACD released by AudioFidelity and the sound is superb. The lyrical content is where this one really shines for me.:)

Hemispheres

View attachment 917417

Track list:

1. Cygnus X-1 Book 2: Hemispheres
2. Circumstances
3. The Trees
4. La Villa Strangiato

Rush's second offering from 1978 would prove to be their last in which a single piece occupied an entire LP side. Telling the story of battling Greek gods, it is an epic work fully befitting the subject matter. Brief reprises from Cygnus X-1: Book 1, from A Farewell To Kings help to tie the two pieces together.

The 3 tracks on side 2 include La Villa Strangiato, Rush's first instrumental. Subtitled 'an exercise in self-indulgence', it allows all 3 members to show off their virtuoso skills, unencumbered with lyrics.

Hemispheres was later reissued on CD. Like 2112, By-Tor and the Snow Dog, The Necromancer and Fountain Of Lamneth, the first track was indexed for CD players able to read the encoding.

The Trees and La Villa Strangiato found their way into the concert set for many years to come.
Spectacular arrangements on this album! Amazing musicianship throughout....My favorite

Test For Echo

Track list:

1. Test For Echo
2. Driven
3. Half The World
4. The Colour Of Right
5. Time And Motion
6. Totem
7. Dog Years
8. Virtuality
9. Resist
10. Limbo
11. Carve Away The Stone

Test For Echo was the 16th studio album from Rush, released in 1996 and produced once again by Peter Collins. Pye Dubois cowrote the title track.

Neil Peart had been taking drum lessons from Freddie Gruber and employed techniques that he learned during these sessions on this album.

In August 1997, Neil Peart's 19 year old daughter, Selena, was killed in a motor vehicle incident. His wife, Jackie, never recovered from the death of their daughter and died less than a year later. Peart told Lee and Lifeson, at Selena's funeral, to consider him retired.

Peart took to the road on his BMW motorcycle and rode for day after day, with no particular destination in sight, as a form of self-healing, following these personal tragedies.

Peart's thoughts and activities during this 55,000 mile journey are chronicled in the book "Ghost Rider: Travels On The Healing Road"

IMG_8801.JPG

With Peart out of the picture, it appeared that Rush was effectively finished. Eventually, Peart decided to play again, but it would be 2002 before another studio album was released.

Fun fact...Getty is not his real name...it is Gary Lee Weinrib...Getty comes from his eastern European mother calling in for dinner, and the kids in the back ally playing ball hockey in Scarbrough Ontario laughing at her accent pronouncing Gary it sounded like....Getty Getty come in for dinner...the same goes for Alex...it's Alexandar Zivojinovich.

It's actually Geddy, not Getty.
