An MR-594 is a shorter, faster path to hifi.

I have some MRII 594s collecting dust. They are on my A6s that I never listen to. Do you think these would get me closer to sonic bliss than my 1005s? It's all subjective of course and my A5s sound real good. It's what I gauge other speakers off of. I'm not quite sure how I would mount the 288s as the screws are in opposing directions. I've never had my A6s apart except to replace a driver I stabbed. Also, I could possibly get some newer large format drivers so as not to break up my set. I was under the impression the older 288s, like I have, are top dogs as far as midrange glory and never thought about replacing them. I might just think that because the prices are outta sight. Maybe I could put 511s or 811s on my A6s and still have a set if I rob the Mantarays from them. Thanks.

Here's a pic ( taken of a bifurcated 511b ) that bFish put together ages ago ( for those who want to create a 511e from a 511b ).

You have to remove the mounting flange, open it's bore to 1.4, then cut the throat off at the point where it's diameter matches the 1.4 of the flange, and weld it back together. This is how you maintain proper throat angle. You end up losing that wanky transition area which may or may not be a positive characteristic of the 511.

Hard to know.

The 511 won't evenly disperse acoustic energy as well as the multicell does. If you have a lot of peripheral reflection points, this could be a good thing. It also won't acoustically load the driver as well as the multicell near XO.

Yes, the 511E was an Altec product (rare) but that is what they did - cut off the throat of the 511B to make it shorter and wider and then welded the flange with the 3 holes for the 288 large format drivers. Altec also coated the outside of the 511E horn with Aquaplus damping material (same as they used in the 311-90 / 311-60 horns).

Of particular interest are those for the JBL ring radiators.
