OK. You will be operating the unit with it turned upside down, so make sure the unit is secure with no tubes touching anything. Take all the safety precautions that are both common sense, and regularly addressed here on AK. You will be working mostly near the front of the unit, so position it for that advantage. Turn the tone controls to their flat setting, mode switch to stereo, and center the balance control. Connect a known balanced high level input into the AUX 2 inputs and select that input on the selector switch. Play the unit at a normal listening volume, with the speakers positioned so that you can hear the relative balance of the channels between them. Proceed in this order with your clip lead:
1. Clip pin #7 of V3 and pin #7 of V8 together. Does the sound balance? If yes, the problem is before this point. If not, then the problem is in the power amplifier section proper. If the sound balanced, remove the clip lead and:
2. Clip the center terminals of the two sections of the volume control together. If the sound balanced, the problem is before this point. Remove the clip lead and:
3. Now clip the "hot" terminals of the two sections of the volume control together (where C22 and C45 connect to). If the sound is balanced, the problem is still before this point. Remove the clip lead and:
4. Clip pin #1 of V2 and pin #1 of V7 together. If the sound balanced, the problem is still before this point. Remove the clip lead and:
5. Now clip pin #2 of V2 and pin #2 of V7 together. You know the drill. If you need to go further:
6. Now clip pin #6 of V2 and pin #6 of V7 together. If you need to go further,
7. Now clip pin #7 of V2 and ping #7 of V7 together. Still further?
8. Connect the selector switch side of C14 and C37 together.
Some point in this process will be the first point in the signal path where the sound will balance. The circuity immediately before that point is where the problem lies. There can be multiple problems causing imbalance issues. If correcting the problem at the first identified point does not return a fullly balanced presentation, then after correcting the problem at that point, keep moving backwards in the unit using these steps until the issues is resolved.

Aux 1 and Aux 2 inputs are identical and go the to same point in the circuit through the selector switch, except that Aux 1 has individual L & R level controls between the input jacks and the selector switch. Therefore, if there is a problem with Aux 2, it must either be at the Aux 2 input jacks, the Selector switch, or the wiring in between.

Glad you got it all squared away! So Aux 2 (as it appears on the X-101ST) is labeled as a Tape input on the X-1000 console unit?
