SAE mark one

found this mark one at goodwill today , it clicks when powered on , but no power light , dont really have a way to test further , would anyone know if the click indicates power? thanks,, mike

Yes, the click indicates something inside is getting power. Whether that power is doing anything it should is left to further testing.

You can use that thing in the tape loop of a chunk of gear to see if it works.

Your tape output into the AUX input on the I and the main output to the tape monitor/input/play on your unit. Then with the unit on and the volume of the I and your unit ALL THE WAY DOWN, you can start to see if a signal goes through it with the two volume controls. Slowly increase the volume of your unit to say half of normal with some source playing, FM, Phono or whatever, then select tape monitor (careful with those volume controls, select with them both at zero again) and then see what you get.

I have a similar SAE preamp. The SAE Mark gear is built like a tank and sounds great it is very sought after and collectable. The power light may be burnt out. I don't know what the click sound means. If I was you I would hook it it up to an amp and some speakers and see if it works

"click" is probably a"muting" relay. That gives the pre-amps amplifiers DC offset time to stabilize.Prevents power-on/off "thumps".

up and running

we tested it turns out it has to sit for about 6 seconds for the light to come on it works fine just a little flat ,prolly needs recapping
