I can only hope a suitable sub becomes available. In the meantime, I’ll probably order 1494/3858’s to have for the big Onk.
 
Crap. I have two receivers and one amp that uses them. Guess I will see what I need.

If you have room on the heatsink, you could drill / tap for TO-247, TO-264, TO-3P, etc. The ones that don't have vertical room may be in trouble.

This totally sucks... the best output devices all becoming unobtanium..

All of my discreet amps are running these... or have been fitted up to them...

It’s also not good news for gryphon who’s amps are based on these...

Well I know I will have no interest ever in buying a post 2018 amp...
 
I'm in the same spot. Every one of my amps uses these. I have a dozen pair to keep around and will likely add a pair or two more to each Digikey order I make until supplies run out.
 
Enough uproar could cause a change of direction for some of these transistors.
2. I think this is a colossal f up on their part, too many devices from too many years have them on board. Asking the owners of these to potentially landfill their items if/when they break is reckless. We’re trying to lower electronic waste, not increase it.

Unless you really screw up (short outputs, etc.) the odds of needing any in your lifetime are pretty slim.

It's not like transistors are consumables, per se; unlike tubes.

Add Yamaha B-2x to the power amps

Yamaha A-1000 (both US and Japanese market versions), A-950 (Japan only) and A-700 integrated amps as well

I'm sure Yamaha matched them pretty closely but the new production seems to be darn close. I'd be happy keeping around maybe 15 pair so you could match as close as possible. As said above, you should probably never need them but it would be a shame to doorstop such an amp over what once was a plentiful part.
You should also investigate which drivers you use as well. The normal Toshiba replacements we've been using went EOL last year and BDent is the only place who still has some in stock.

Thanks for notifying us regarding the Sanken transistors and for your interest in our amplifiers.

We are aware of the fact that Sanken unfortunately have put out an ‘End Of Life’ for their power transistors in MT200 houses.

This is of cause very unlucky for us, since we are using of them since our first Gryphon power amp. back in the 1980ies, BUT I can promise you that we are going to order a truck load of them, to secure the future of our amps.

We will only convert to other power transistors in a far future, if we find similar or better sounding/performing power transistors.


So no worries mate, you still have time to order Mephisto Solos :)

Alas there is hope still for some time.... given the chance, I will go All Gryphon for a big system... well I’d like a pair of Mephisto Solos powering 2 pair of Kodo speakers ...
 
Well now is the time to order... orders taken till end of June , which will be produced be Dec 31 to order. Last ship out (possibly of non specific order stock) is end of June 2019...

So ordering truckloads now will not create unobtanium, if anything will prevent the lack of them surfacing so quickly.
 
A few part #s are already showing OOS with a 500 piece minimum order. I hope Digi-Key is going to restock those parts one last time.
